11. According to the questionnaires that I have here, it seems that (trainee #1) has a relevant experience with CSS.
That’s good… Don’t worry, (trainee #2) that’s why you have this training so that you can have experience, okay?
12. Now let’s start our proper orientation for competency based training Computer Systems Servicing…
13. I prepared this slide… okay, so I have divided our topic into 7 parts, this morning we will going to talk about the
first one, CBT next one is the 10 Principles of CBT, next is the analysis between Traditional education and CBT,
then Role of me as your trainer and your role as a trainee. Followed by qualification overview so this is all about
CSS and Competency-based learning materials or CBLM…
14. So let’s go to our first topic: Competency-Based Training (CBT)
15. What is CBT? So, CBT stands for Competency-Based Training it is a training delivery approach that focuses on the
competency development of a learner as a result of training.
16. So this means that, CBT does not focus only with what you know but what you can actually do with what you
know, it focuses more on the outcomes rather than the process and it is learner centered. Okay?
17. So let’s go to the 10 principles of CBT. So the first principle we have…
18. The training is based on curriculum develop from the competency standards
19. Learning is competency-based or modular in structure.
20. This means you have to finish and accomplish the first or particular module before you can proceed to another
module and you have to complete all the modules for you to qualify this qualification, okay?
21. Training delivery is individualized or self-paced.
22. So, that is why I have gather your current competencies so that your training will be personalized according to
your need, and it is self-paced so you will be the one responsible for your own learning, okay?
23. Training is based on work that must be performed.
24. This means that our training is related or is in accordance with the industry standards; what we do here in our
training is actually done in the industry. Okay?
25. Training materials are directly related to the competency standards and the curriculum.
26. And lastly, we have approach training programs are nationally accredited by the UTPRAS or the Unified TVET
Program Registration and Accreditation System. So those are the 10 principles of CBT. Do you have any
questions?
27. So, let’s have the comparative analysis between traditional education and CBT. So there’s a very big difference
between the traditional education and CBT. Let’s have those:
28. The first one, in traditional education instructors’ focus on managing instruction so that means it is teacher-
centered. Well in CBT, instructors’ focus on managing learning so that means it is learner-centered, okay?
29. Next, most students enter about the same time in traditional, where in CBT the students entered at various time
throughout the year so this is the one of the 10 principles of CBT that you can have various exits and entry in our
program. Okay?
30. Next, students all come from the same material, so even though you actually done with that training or the
particular experiences before, you have to do undergo or to do it again because it is done for everybody in
traditional. Where in CBT, we recognize that you already get the training, so you don’t have to undergo the
training again so you need to proceed to another competency. So, that is CBT! Okay? Do you have any questions
with the difference? (~No Questions…) Really easy but a very big difference.
31. Okay now let’s go to the Next topic, my role as your trainer.
32. So what are my roles? So I have a lot of roles.
33. Okay, I will serve as the team member so that I can diagnose your problems and can help those who really needs
help. I will also stimulate your motivation and I will also encourage you. (that’s why… are you okay?). I will
motivate you and also I will recognize your prior learning and also I will give you rewards for your individual
progress and achievements, okay? Do you have any questions with my role?
34. Okay, let’s go to your role as a trainee. So what are your roles?
35. So you may select what areas that you still need to learn, based on your current Competencies…
36. Now can you give me another role…
37. Trainees evaluate their own progress to so how well they are doing.
38. Yes that’s right! We are going to tackle this one later on when we have monitoring tools
39. Next, can you give me another one? Trainees know that they will rate based on their performance. Yes, that’s
true. In CBT, it is more on performance. Okay? Now, any questions?
40. So let’s go to the qualification overview
41. We will talk about Computer Systems Servicing.
42. So, what is CSS by the way?
43. (CSS is the title of our module, it is in Electronics Sector with a nominal duration of 280 hours.. The COMPUTER
SYSTEMS SERVICING NC II Qualification consists of competencies that must possess to enable to install and
configure computers systems, set-up computer networks and servers and to maintain and repair computer
systems and networks. )
44. And if you have this qualification, you can be a: Computer Assembler, Computer Service Technician, Network
Technician and Computer Maintenance Technician. Do you want to be like this in the future?
45. So do you have any questions with the qualification overview?
46. So here, Computer Systems Servicing is competency compose of basic, common and core competency.

47. For our core competencies this are the most important competencies for our qualification. So we have:

48.
49. So you need to acquire these skills for this qualification, okay? Do you have any question?
50. So let’s go to the CBLM, the last part of our topic.
51. CBLM stands for Competency-Based Learning Materials, is designed and carefully developed learning materials
that the trainees needs help instructions to guide them throughout the learning process.
52. So let’s go to the parts of the CBLM, we have the preliminary pages, so in our preliminary pages you can see the
front page, trainees guide on how to use CBLM, list of competencies summary and so on.
53. So let’s go to the most important part of the CBLM. The instruction sheets.
54. First we have the Information Sheet, wherein the content or the learning activities are there so the trainee
should read the information sheet and then subject this is an immediate assessment or evaluation of your
understanding based on what you have read in the information sheet. And the answer key, this is an immediate
feedback of your self information
