ANALYSIS

Unlike in the previous experiments where we conducted each experiment with our
groups, for E404, we conducted an individual experiment. Wherein we discussed about
the concept of refraction. The index of refraction of a material is done experimentally to
fully understand its concept. The reason why this particular experiment is performed
individually is so we will be able to grasp the concept. As discussed, the ratio of the sine
of the incident angle for light vacuum to the sine of the refracted angle in that material.

When light goes from glass into air, where light travels from a dense medium to a
less dense medium, we determine the index of refraction given corkboards and pins to be
able to see the refraction of the object. This experiment was done with the glass set on the
corkboard and perpendicular axes. We were able to plot by measuring the locations of the
pin 2 and 3 with pin 1 on the center of the circle.

When the light goes from air to glass, where light travels from a less dense
medium to a dense medium. We determine the index of refraction through the medium.
The experiment was done in the same way with the first part, however, this time it is
inverted. We were able to get the ratio of the lengths of the pins outside the circle towards
the perpendicular axis.

Lastly, to determine the critical angle of the glass. The diode laser was used as
the light source to get the critical angle. In the same manner in the previous parts, this
was done with a gadget that requires electricity.

An experiment was conducted and was determined that the light ray when
travelling in a medium. We used some concepts of trigonometry to get both value of
angles. Based on my observation, the index of refraction is not affected by the angle of
incidence of a material. It is because the index of refraction is a constant value. In
retrospect, we have achieved the objectives of this experiment and acquired a small value
of percent error, however, there are still factors that should keep in mind. Mainly, human
error like plotting the pins of incorrect coordinates, inaccuracy in the computations, and
when the diode laser is directed on the medium incorrectly.
