WHAT IS AN DESCRIPTIVE ESSAY?

Is a genre of essay that asks the studet to describe something – object, persons,
places, experiences, emotions, situation, etc.

Describing objects

A descriptive composition about objects should consist of:

a) Introduction: where you give some brief information about the object

b) Main body: where you describe apparence and use/utility.

c) Conclusion: which includes your comments about it.


WHAT INFORMATION DO YOU HAVE TO GIVE?

When you describe objects you should give information like:

1. Size and weight

2. Shape

3. Pattern and decoration

4. Colour

5. Origin

6. Material

7. Special caracteristics
EXAMPLE

In my house my family and I have three computers, but my favorite is the new
computer that my parents bought last year.

It is a desktop computer that has the following characteristics: big, heavy,


rectangular, of black, blue and gray colors, it is made of plastic and metallic
material of ultimate technology. My parents bought it in $2000, the parts of this
computer are keyboard, screen, CPU and mouse.

My computers useful because I can do homework, play video games, watch


movies, listen to music and chat with friends and family.
I think that computers are very important in dairy life.
