Jim & Melissa Marcum Intercessory Missions Update May-June 2018

2017
Dear Friends & Family,
th th
“We’re writing this newsletter on May 5 , realizing that in just two days, on May 7 , International House of
Prayer in Kansas City will celebrate our 19 Year Anniversary! We continue to thank the Lord that in November
of 2012 He led our family to become a part of this Missions Base. We have seen Him accomplish so much in
the 5½ years we’ve been here. The prayer movement has grown exponentially (literally!) and our unity with the
global missions movement has solidified into a partnership of strength and mutual support as we are going forth
together – prayer & missions side-by-side – to fulfill the Great Commission. Thank you so much for all that you
have done and are doing, each one of you, to support us in our calling & ministry here at IHOPKC. We cannot
do this without you!

This weekend for IHOPKC’s anniversary, we are having a special dedication service at property that was
donated to us several years ago to be used some day for the building of a new missions base. We call this
property “The Truman Property,” because it was formerly owned by the Harry S. Truman family. There have
been a number of prophetic promises about this land, and the way we received it was a miraculous provision
from the Lord. We are seriously seeking the Lord for His timing on when to begin developing this property. We
would appreciate your prayers that we will follow the leadership of the Lord fully as we walk forward in faith into
the next season He has for the International House of Prayer in Kansas City. Now, to our newsletter and the
things we want to share with you this month – thanks for reading!
-Love, The Marcums

Our Privilege to Host Students First Time Visit to IHOPKC

In January, Pastor John Koehler from Joplin Church Alive in Joplin, MO contacted us about the possibility of helping
host a group of students from their Christian School for a Spring ministry trip. The school has been focusing on prayer
this year, and the staff & students felt like coming to IHOPKC would further deepen their hearts and widen their vision
for prayer in their personal lives, as well as in their school and church. We readily agreed to help host them!
The last week of March, the students came for 5 days, led by one of the teachers in the school. We had some activities
lined up throughout the week, including:
 Time spent in our youth-led prayer & worship sessions, including an impromptu Q&A with one of our youth
leaders.
 A tour of IHOPU, meeting the IHOPU staff & leaders, and attending classes.
 Melissa took the group for a visit to Hope City, our inner city mission in downtown KC, where they helped
serve in the Kitchen and in the prayer room there.
 Plugging in to “Kansas City Evangelism Fellowship,” the weekly gathering of our base evangelists.
 An opportunity for each of them to receive personal prophetic ministry in our Prophecy Rooms.
 LOTS of time in our Global Prayer Room, including the Night Watch (one night they stayed till 4 a.m.!).

On Thursday morning, the group joined us in a time of prayer

ministry on the sidewalk in front of the abortion clinic. I (Jim) was
impressed by the way they readily joined in leading prayers out loud
– I could tell these students had been receiving training in prayer!
After some time praying together, we talked about what ministry
there on the sidewalk involved, and how we also have counselors
who talk with the women about ways they can choose life for their
babies. The school teacher who was leading the group then shared
something significant. THREE of the young men in the group HAD
BEEN ADOPTED into their families! Our KCCFL leader, Wendy,
was with us, and she spoke to the young men that this calling to pray
and work toward the ending of abortion may be something the Lord is leading them into, since their own lives had
been rescued and blessed through adoption. We had another time of prayer especially for these young men, that the
Lord would mark them and raise them up as voices for LIFE in their generation.
Before we left the site, Wendy and I had a few moments aside to talk with their teacher, and she told us another
amazing God-story. With her permission I’m sharing this in our newsletter. When she was 20 yrs old she had an
early & difficult marriage come to an end at a time when she was experiencing her first pregnancy. She had little
support in her life and knew she could not raise the child, so she courageously chose not to abort but to place her
child (a daughter) with a loving family by adoption. It was a closed adoption, so she had not been able to keep in
contact. Then, after 24 yrs, in 2011, right after the Joplin tornado, her adopted daughter found her on Facebook and
contacted her for the first time! Since that time, they have met and kept in touch, and next month she will be going
to her daughter’s wedding. What a blessing! We’re so glad the group joined us on the sidewalk that day, as the Lord
touched us all in a special way with the “spirit of adoption.” And we’ve heard recently from their teacher and from
Pastor Koehler that the group was “profoundly changed” by their time at IHOPKC. To God be the glory!

OPPORTUNITIES FROM THE LORD

 Recently we had a tornado warning and for the first time we went to the storm shelter here at our mobile
home park. Things were tense as someone reported a tornado had touched down nearby. One of the ladies
in the shelter spoke up and said, “Can anyone lead us in prayer?” Jim was able to quiet everyone and led in
a prayer for protection in Jesus’ name. We found out later the tornado was only briefly on the ground and
did little damage and no injury. Praise the Lord for answered prayer, and for His protection! We were
thankful for the opportunity to minister in prayer.
 Some leaders of our IHOPKC Women’s Ministry were invited to a special ‘spa day’ at the home of one of
the couples in our small group. I (Melissa) was asked to help as the administrative hostess for this morning
of ministry to these leaders. As they were “soaking” in the presence of the Lord with music, Scripture, and
journaling, I took them in turns to the ministry stations we had set up. There was hand massage (with
words of encouragement), foot-washing, and personal prophetic ministry to each one. It was a very
refreshing time, and the women who participated said how blessed and special it made them feel.
 Our Kansas City Coalition for Life team had a breakfast meeting after our Spring 40 Days for Life
campaign. The morning of the meeting, our director, Wendy, texted me (Jim) and asked if I would bring a
devotional word to start the meeting. The Lord had been speaking to me from Psalm 58 as it relates to the
spiritual battle behind abortion, so I was able to share this with the team. Everyone seemed very
encouraged, and after the meeting Wendy asked if I would bring the devotional word at the Opening Rally
for this coming Fall 40 Days for Life. She said, “That doesn’t mean you get out of leading worship – we
want you to do that too!” (smile)

NEW DATES FOR THE MORAL OUTCRY IN JOPLIN

Friday, June 22, 6-9 p.m. / Saturday, June 23, 9am-Noon at Victory Ministry & Sports Complex - 3405 Hammons Blvd
We apologize to all who had reserved our earlier dates that we had to postpone. Our
leaders, Denny & Mindy, were not able to come due to Mindy’s doctor limiting her travel
for the last few weeks of her pregnancy. We will wait & let you hear the story from them,
but we’ll just share that the Lord spoke to them in a special way a year ago to adopt an
embryo child. This requires the wife of the adoptive couple to have the embryo implanted
and actually carry for 9 months and give birth to the adopted child! It is an amazing story,
and another significant step in the journey! If you live near Joplin please come to this
exciting presentation. You’ll hear the latest on “The Moral Outcry” petition before the
Supreme Court to overturn Roe V. Wade and how the Lord is moving right now toward
the ending of federally sanctioned abortion. DON’T MISS IT – WE’LL SEE YOU
THERE! (The picture to the right is Melissa holding Denny and Mindy’s new son,
Gideon Wilberforce – what a prophetic sign.)
FINAL WORD: The Lord’s blessing be upon each one of you. Do keep in touch – we’re praying for you!

Because He is worthy of it all, Jim & Melissa Marcum
