 Overall Wifi Solution

1. Introduction

In the current model of Wifi deployment, traffic can be divided into three functional
planes:
 Management plane: includes management functions such as configuration,
firmware updates, monitoring / reporting,...
 Control plane: includes control functions such as AP mobility, RF
controls(channel selection, transmit power control, channel load balancing)
 Data plane: includes the heavy wifi traffic

The Cloud Controller solution removes the complixities of dealing with controller
hardware capacity by centralizing the Management plane and Control plane to the
Cloud, while the Data plane is distributed at the edge of the network. The solution
helps reducing costs while enhancing performance and rapid deployment.
Within this model, the Cloud Controller plays an important role in controlling, ,
authenticating and billing between VNPT Technology’s Access Point and VNPT Wifi
Core network. The wifi user traffic is broken out at the Access Point edge, while
the transmission from the AP to the Cloud Controller is done via Internet connection
with a secure tunnel. This solution also supports SIM based authentication (EAP-
SIM) by integrating with Wifi Core network and Core Mobile network, which realizes
of 3G network offloading capabilities.
