MACROPAVER 12B COMMISSIONING MANUAL

Mounting
A truck with the proper capacity to carry the fully loaded Macropaver 12B is of extreme importance. VSS
Macropaver Division can provide information as to truck axle capacities, axle locations, frame length, etc.

Various components are supplied with the Macropaver for mounting. Check the components received
against the following list of components required. Advise VSS Macropaver of any shortages.

(NOTE: Due to the variations required for connecting the fuel lines to the truck fuel supply system and the
heating lines to the truck cooling system, additional adapters or fittings may have to be obtained locally. For
the 1/2" fittings noted with an * an extra set of fittings is provided to allow for connection to trucks with 1/2"
fuel lines on both supply and return.)

Once the appropriate truck is available and all the necessary mounting components are confirmed, the
Macropaver can be mounted using the following instructions:

1. Refer to page 12 of the "Maintenance Manual" and remove pugmill from the Macropaver.

2. Attach spacer wood provided with the Macropaver to the truck frame. Attach using 1/4" (6 mm)
diameter bolts, one near each end of the spacer wood and one in the middle. Drill through the wood and
frame rail flanges. Tighen the nut on the bolts so that the head of the bolt is brought just below flush with
the top surface of the wood.

3. Lift Macropaver using lifting eyes and chains as described in the previous section. Remove the front
shipping frame and the rear shipping legs from the Macropaver

4. Place the Macropaver onto the truck frame. Center the Macropaver frame rails side-to-side on the truck
frame rails. Locate the Macropaver frame fore-and-aft on the truck frame so that the truck cab does not
interfere with access to the tank ladder. The back of the rear tires of the truck will usually be located 8 -
12" (200 - 300 mm) in front of the operator platform. Refer to drawing on page 5.

Mounting (cont'd)
5. Locate position for front tie down plates (see drawing). The plates should be located as close to the
tanks as possible and, if possible, use existing holes in the truck frame. Make two tie down plates as
shown in the drawing to match the truck frame and holes. Drill holes in frame if necessary to match the
tie down plate holes.

6. Bolt tie down plates to truck frame.

7. Weld tie down plates to Macropaver frame rails.

8. Re-install pugmill.

9. Once mounting is complete, the next step is to hook-up fuel and 12 volt DC power to the engine. For
fuel, tie into the truck fuel tank or fuel lines. A fuel supply line, of 1/4" (6 mm) inside diameter, is sup-
plied to supply fuel to the electric fuel pump mounted on the engine. If desired, a fuel shut-off valve may
be installed where the Macropaver fuel supply line ties into the truck fuel supply system. A fuel
return line, of 1/4" (6 mm) inside diameter, is also supplied to return excess fuel back to the truck's fuel
tank. For 12 volt DC power it will be necessary to run the supplied 2/0 gauge cable from the truck's
positive battery terminal (use 3/8" eye terminal end) to the main power terminal on the starter on the
Macropaver (use 1/2" eye terminal end). For the negative, or grounding, cable run the supplied 2/0
gauge cable from one of the Macropaver engine mount bolts (use 1/2" eye terminal end) to the truck's
negative battery terminal (use 3/8" eye terminal end). Attach terminal ends to battery cable by crimping
them in place. Use heat shrink tubing on terminal ends after crimping to seal the cable into the terminal.

10. The next step is to supply truck engine coolant to the Macropaver emulsion pump heating jackets. It is
necessary to use the truck engine coolant so the pump can be heated up while in transit to the jobsite and
kept warm throughout the day, even when the Macropaver is not operating. To provide coolant to the
pump:

A. Locate appropriate pressure and return points on the truck engine's cooling system. A likely
spot is usually associated with the cab heater lines.

B. Tee into the pressure side of the cooling system and connect the supplied pressure hose from this
point back to the lower fitting on the relief valve end of the emulsion pump jacket. It is recom-
mended that a shut-off valve be installed where the pump heating line taps into the truck coolant
line.

C. Tee into the return side of the cooling system and connect the supplied return hose from this point
back to the upper fitting on the drive end of the emulsion pump jacket.

11. The final step is to mount the front spraybar. This is mounted to the front bumper of the truck using
brackets fabricated locally to fit the bumper of the truck. Then the spray bar water hose is connected to
the spray bar and electrical plug for the spray bar on/off valve is connected.
