Introduction

Since the inception in 1974, US Apparel has achieved its goal of becoming a truly vertically
integrated manufacturing facility from cotton to finished garment. Its commencement instigated
by two friends at a rudimentary level, shortly after grew into a large-scale industry; now widely
known to be the leading garment manufacturing company in Pakistan with 6 manufacturing
facilities with 17,000 employees & more than 30 years of experience under its belt.

U.S Apparel is the complete solution for all garment needs. US Apparel produce everything from
fiber to the most elaborate hand crafted fashion garments in denim, stretch and flats. In addition
to quality fabrics and apparel, that provide customers a perfect service package. Today they
produce over 25 million garments a year for major brands and retailers across Europe and North
America, which is expected to increase to 30 million garments a year by 2020. Greige and
Denim fabric production exceeds 30 million meters per year which is expected to go up to 45
million meters by 2017 and 60 million meters by 2020.

As part of our social responsibility, U.S Apparel, believe in enacting those polices which work
towards the benefit of employees and betterment of the environment. US Apparel has well
organized safety & security system comprising trained guards, fire alarming system and water
hydrants. US Apparel comprises of well-educated (post graduates and graduates) professionals in
various disciplines i.e. Engineering, Commerce, Finance and Marketing. Accommodation is
provided to 70 % employees, almost at all levels, including labor and staff.

Structure of organization

Centralization and decentralization both exist in US apparel. Centralization at upper


level, US apparel have top-down hierarchy because major decisions are taken from high
level management and decentralization at subunit level which encourage or give every
employee an opportunity to participate in decision making
Rules and regulations
 Rules and procedures are one thing which makes a company. After the manpower, it is
the rules which define what type and how the culture of the company goes.
 If there would be no rules in a company to follow then there would have been lots of
chaos and mess all around which would have only resulted in less than expected output.
so, it is important to follow the rules because
1. To create discipline in the company
2. to promote cooperating environment
3. Improves the performance of both the employees as well as the company
4. Should be strict for achieving all objectives timely

 They have divided their work in different departments and every individual perform its
own task. Some major departments are follows

Organization Environment and Culture

 US has very friendly and healthy environment, employees are working under hygienic
and clean environment and company’s main focus on task accomplishment and
employee empowerment that’s why employee satisfaction level in US apparel is higher
than its competitors
 Team oriented culture, because they think staff has better understanding of problems
and willingness to solve them

Politics in organization
 Politics is not exist in our organization, because not any kind of unions allow In US
apparel. Everyone working like a team here, HR interact everyone regularly and analyze
what’s going on and keep an eye on the employees which task they are performing

Conflicts between employees


 US apparel has very strong and cooperative intranet communication system. They share
ideas with each other very frequently and conduct meetings to resolve conflicts and
issues.
 Mostly Clash between employees and workers Resolve by Head of Department. If the
matter s not sought out by HOD so unsolved issues are solved by HR. By listening both
side of stories and then solved via company’s rules and regulations

Women Empowerment
 Female contribution in the workforce impact on the organization. Almost 35% of the
workforce in the organization is female and that’s really a big ratio of women as
compared to other textile organization.
 There is no discrimination between men and women. Women have equal opportunity to
be hired almost in every department.

Recruitment and selection process


 HR also creates a pool of eligible candidates and with the collaboration of concerned
managers, hires the best candidate for the position. For some fresher US Apparel do
hiring’s from renowned universities of Pakistan. They induct fresh young professionals
and train, develop and retain them for future leadership roles in various functions. One
year’s MTO Program, in different functions including HR, Marketing, Finance,
Production, Research and Development and Engineering. On successful completion of 1
year training, the company may consider the incumbent for regular appointment as an
Assistant Manager

 Recruitment and selection function fulfills the future needs of talent sourcing and
their appointments or entry into the organization. Though US Apparel corporate
policy doesn’t cater to developing individual career, but a very elaborate process
exists to orient, train and retain new associates in to a value system which
everybody subscribes to. Training and development function is directed towards
individuals who have potential to grow and commit to long term association with US
Apparel
US Apparel Learning Center
 US Apparel owns its own training center for employees. US provide the training facility
to un-skill staff to enhance their skill & also pay min. Employees are given chance to
diversify their skills in this learning center. Suppose an employee is masters in
Mechanical engineering, but he is good in marketing so US Apparel is having capability
to diversify and enhance the skills of its employee according through its learning center.

Strengths

 It is a well experienced and time tested textile industry which has proved its matter for
about 50 years and still keep its position in the textile market.
 The owner of the US Apparel has enough financial resources therefore they have variety
of plants and capable of investing in another project.
 US Apparel &textile limited uses state of the art textile technology (raw to finished
product) there by ensuring the quality and specification of product.
 They are providing better pay to their employees and also bonus to them which
motivate the workforce and they are doing well at work setting.

 Working environment is very friendly and comfortable.


 Good Reputation internationally.
 High customer Satisfaction because of better quality.

Weakness

 The firm lack national and international effective advertising and promotional
campaigns.
 All the competitors of US Apparel are actively involved in retail business. .
 No stipend for internees.
 No sufficient Training & Development on soft skill for new joiner

Opportunity

 Currently the US Apparel is not in knitwear however they can expand their product line
by producing knitwear.
 The state of the art technology being in use can produce far more than current
production, if the resources are monitored and utilized economically.
 New In house project of Power Generation i.e. US Apparel is going to start the own
power house to avoid the Energy crisis.
 Strong and long term relationship with suppliers and customers are benefits for extension
in different products lines.
 Demand is greater than the supply because of high quality.

Threats

 Political instability effects the US Apparel because of the quota system, the company
can be restricted by the government to export limited quota only.
 Because of the economic instability, the US Apparel &affected a lot. Dumping system
which is rising on daily basis in the world can create many problems for the company
and any uncertainty in the world like 9/11may affect also the overall export.
 Changes in the prices of cotton internationally sometimes cause increase in government
taxes.
 New entrants in the field of textile are growing speedily and can be a threat in near future.
