Kristallnacht is known as to the “night of broken glass”. On this night a whole

bunch of Jewish owned buildings were destroyed and wreaked. On this night there was

groups of Hitler’s Youth and German citizens were destroying the buildings for no

reason. Also, there were almost 100 Jewish men killed and 30,000 arrested. All of these

arrests were made without a lawful reason. After Kristallnacht the German Jews were in

worse condition then they were before this event. Before Kristallnacht the Nazis burned

all the books written by Jewish authors.

Another thing that changed for the Jews after Kristallnacht Jews and people from

the Aryan race were not allowed to have intercourse or be in a relationship. The Nazis do

not want the Jewish population to reproduce. The events started late November 9th and

didn’t end till the early hours of the 10th. The firefighters were not allowed to stop the fires

that burned the Jewish building. But if the fires got too close to the German owned

buildings they were allowed to stop the flames.

This website has a domain with a “.org”. The facts that are in this website

come from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Which is a reliable source to

get facts from.

Kristallnacht translates from German to “Night of Crystal”. Which

describes all of the broken glass that occurred that night from the damage from the

Germans. All of the buildings assaulted were owned by Jewish Germans. Either Jewish

business, houses or synagogues. The main leaders of these acts of violence were the

Hitler Youth. And they justified themselves by saying it was revenge for the assassination

of Ernst Vom Rath.

During this mass violence there were over 267 synagogues in all of Germany.

There were many Jews that were arrested for no reason. The anti-Semitic has begun in

Germany. The people of Germany were fully convinced that the Jews had become

enemies of the state. And should be completely exterminated.

This source is credible because the other sources. From where this website got its

information from. Also, this website is affiliated with a Holocaust museum.

This source told how it was the Death of Ernst Vom Roth that triggered the

outburst of violence. The arrested Jews were taken to the camp Dachau. All of the

damage that took place during thoses hourse totaled to around 40 million Reichsmarks.

This anger was built up for a long period of time with help from Hitler’s propaganda. The

police did not help when the Jews were being attacked.

The United States did nothing to help until they were attacked on their homeland.

Many jews were affected even worse after this event. In fear some fled to the United

States. While others converted to Christianity. This was the event that sent the Holocaust

into motion.

Wiesel, Ellie . Night. 1st ed., Hill and Wang, 2006.

Night is a credible source because the book was written by a survivor from the

Holocaust. It has won awards and others can vouch for the facts in the book. Also, the

book gives the author of the book.

In this book there are the themes of indifference. There is indifference shown by

the soldiers about the prisoners’ lives and the soldiers started not to care about their own

lives. Another theme presented in Night was dehumanization, the Nazis began to treat

the Jews as animals, so the Jews began to act like animals. We can see the example of

losing faith in the book. Not only from Ellie, but also from the other Jews who were

taken prisoner. An example that Ellie and his father showed is the father-son relationships

and the perseverance to survive.

Some things one can learn from the book is about the spiritual state of the

victims of the Holocaust. They may also see how unjust the prisoners were treated. Some

events that can be seen in Night are the Death Marches and the Selection process. The

atrocities that Dr. Mengele commits are outlined in the source. And the awful living

conditions and the infirmaries are highlighted.
