Candidates
The NRF SARChI Chair in “Development and Optimization of Wastewater Treatment Technology for Developing Economies”
is based at the Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology. As part of an externally Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
funded project “Developing a uniform STH analysis consortium for analyzing fecal waste samples” DUT is looking for the
suitable candidates for the following positions for two years .

Aims of the project:


• To set up and coordinate a QA/QC system for environmental assessment and quantification of Soil Transmitted Helminths
(STH) and especially Ascaris.
• To coordinate method development among selected laboratories related to Gates Foundation activities or other laboratories
with a well-defined track record of environmental investigations.
• To perform comparative methodological assessments for different sampling regimes related to recovery, precision, accuracy
and sensitivity aiming towards a standardized and recognized reference method.
• To create a network of global partners in the area of methodology for assessing risks with soil transmitted helminthes.

Position 1: QA-QC Manager or Post-doctoral Position

Job description and responsibilities: Coordinate the work under SARChi Chair and lead laboratory investigations. Review documents
protocols and reports. Write, review Change Controls/SOPs and revise SOPs, Represent QA/QC at selected meetings. Checking &
execution of microbiological results. Implementation of GLP in the laboratory, Investigate and prepare reports for process deviations,
failures, complaints and corrective/preventive actions, responsible for laboratory instrumentation and their maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications: Either a PhD or equivalent reflecting experience in QA/QC documented laboratory management, should
have a good and well documented background in parasitology as well as in laboratory, quality assurance and quality control methods.
Additional experience in managing instruments, investigation, complaint handling, and training programs, experience in handling
instruments like Flow Cytometer, HPLC, UV visible spectrophotometer etc. would be assets. Knowledge of statistical methods in
laboratory analysis will be preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills required.

Position 2: Laboratory Technologist/Doctoral Student

Job description and responsibilities: Good background in parasitological work, will be responsible for processing of samples and will
carry out QA/QC work under QA/QC Manager.

Preferred Qualifications: Master of Science and should be willing for doctoral degree.
