Mentor Duties
 Develop understanding of building school culture to meet the needs of all
learners.
 Collaborate with teacher leaders through continuous improvement process.
 Develop understanding building processes, policies and procedures
 Develop systems to support building data literacy amongst staff
 Support Instructional Support Time within school day to meet the needs of all
learners.
 Support instructional planning based on secondary needs to enhance tier 1 and tier
2 instruction.
 Develop understanding of teacher evaluation process.
 Collaborate with administrators regarding equitable practices in the school
environment.
 Advocate for equitable allocation of resources to need the unique needs of
buildings.

School Environment:

Power Middle School is one of three middle schools in Farmington Public Schools. It
has a population of 597 students in grades 6-8. This is the second year in a 6-8 grade
configuration structure. Prior to that, the school identified as an upper elementary,
servicing grades 5 and 6. Power has a diverse community with an ethnic make-up of
55.78% Caucasian, 22.61% African American, 12.73% Asian, 4.75% Hispanic/Latino,
and 3.5% identifying with two or more races. There is nearly an even split in gender
within the school population. 22% of the population is considered economically
disadvantaged and 11.89% receive special education services. The school currently
houses specialty classrooms for students with severe multiple impairments and Autism
Spectrum Disorder in addition to resource room services. Student achievement data
reflects a gap between African American and Caucasian students. Power is developing
greater cultural competency to meet the diverse needs of their learners in effort to close
the achievement gap. They are including student voice to help shift the culture.
