Saint Peter

Saint peter the apostle, original name was Simon. He was a disciple of Jesus Christ, he

was recognized in the early Christian church as the leader of the 12 disciples and by the Roman

Catholic Church as the first of its unbroken succession of popes. Peter, a Jewish fisherman, he

was called to be a disciple of Jesus at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. He received from Jesus

the name Cephas from Aramaic Kepa (rock). I chose St. Peter because he caught my attention,

and felt right for me after researching multiple saints.

In Saint Peter's early years; we do not know for sure but he was born sometime around

the end of the 1st century B.C. Of his early life we know little except that he came from the

village of Bethsaida in Galilee and that his father was a fisherman. When the time came and he

met and joined Jesus, he was already married you can find this in the bible. (Mark 1:30); he

lacked any formal education found in bible at (Acts 4:13) and worked the fishing nets with his

father and his brother Andrew at the lakeside town of Capernaum. His brother Andrew also

joined the group of Jesus' disciples on the same day.

 Peter was a citizen of Palestine. Research shows that an ordinary day in the life or a

Palestine resident states a precisely clear image of Saint Peter's social conditions. Research,

residents and the Bible all show that Saint Peter had a reliance on superstition, and an extreme

dependence on the vagaries of natural elements. The atmosphere in Palestine when Peter reached

his adult life in the mid-20s of the 1st century A.D. It was certain that Peter's attachment to Jesus

at the beginning was largely based on the persuasion that Jesus would indeed restore the

kingdom of Israel and that Peter and the other Apostles would be leaders in the new era.

Why I chose Peter and the influence and importance he has in my everyday life. Here are two

reasons why all of us believe or should believe Peter was very important and still is, for

understanding Christianity. First, he is treated as a model for Christians to follow. Us Christians

are expected to act as Peter is described as acting, for better and for worse. The second reason is

because the gospels describe Jesus as calling Peter his “rock” upon which the future church

would be built. After his martyrdom in Rome, traditions had developed which led to the belief

that the most important Christian church organization was located in Rome. To this day I

personally believe it is. Peter is very special to me, he is guarding the gates of Heaven for all of

us! If that doesn't show you how strong and courageous he must be then I don’t know what does.

Saint Peter prayer- O God, who hast given unto Thy blessed Apostle Peter the keys to the

kingdom of heaven, and the power to bind and loose: grant that we may be delivered, through the

help of this intercession, from the slavery of all our sins: Who livest and reignest world without

end. Amen
