● Each group will have eight minutes to conduct a conversation to discuss each question
● One additional minute will be provided at the end of each round for scholars who haven’t yet spoken
● While part of the outside circle you are expected to:
○ Record comments or evidence that change ideas
○ Record what your partner does to participate in the discussion
● Quick feedback will be given at the end of each round from both your partner and the teacher

Norms
● Speaking:
○ Project your voice professionally
○ Use and “breakdown” specific words or phrases in text evidence to deepen the discussion
● Listening:
○ Turn to the page of the text that is referenced
○ Track the speaker
○ Examine a peer’s text evidence differently
New Focuses
● Speaking: Reset the conversation back to the initial prompt.
○ Example: “I think we’ve gotten off track, can we connect this back to the question?”
● Listening: Take notes on ideas that change your thinking about the text!
