TOO MANY SWEETS!

1. COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE:

Countable (C):

 Son las cosas que tú puedes contar, agrupar o separar.

 Tiene 2 formas: Plural y singular

Ejemplos:

One Apple Two Apples Three Apples

Uncountable (U):

 Son las cosas que tu NO puedes contar

 La idea es que son objetos que constituyen “una masa” que no se puede separar. ¿Por qué
no se pueden separar? Porque son materiales de una sola pieza o líquidos.

Ejemplos: Butter, meat, ice cream, tea, salt, cofee, juice, sugar, cheese, bread, etc

 No tiene forma plural , ni tampoco numeración

Ejemplo: Milks (leches), rices (arroces), one ice cream (un helado), two waters (dos
aguas).

 Todos los líquidos son U

 Algunos sustantivos pueden ser C o U, pero en un contexto diferente

Ejemplos:
 WATER A GLASS OF WATER

AN ICE CREAM SOME ICE CREAM

SOME CHOCOLATE A PIECE OF CHOCOLATE

SOME CHEESE

SLICE OF CHEESE

CUBE OF SUGAR
 TUB OF BUTTER
SOME BUTTER

2. A/ AN SOME/ ANY:

 Se usa a/ an con las cosas C en forma singular

 Se usa some con las cosas C (cuando es en forma plural) y en las cosas U, en
oraciones afirmativas y a veces preguntas.

¿Cuándo usamos some en pregunta?

Lo usamos cuando pedimos u ofrecemos cosas.

 Se usa Any con las cosas C plural y en cosas U, en oraciones negativas o preguntas
Ejemplos:

COUNTABLE UNCOUNTABLE
(+) We need an apple Some butter
some apples Some milk

(-) We don´t need a tomato Any rice

Any tomatoes Any suagar

(?) Do we need a tomato? Any rice?

Any tomatoes? Any sugar?

3. HOW MANY / HOW MUCH:

 Significa MUCHO
 Se usa how much cuando son cosas U
 Se usa how many cuando son cosas C

Ejemplos:

COUNTABLE UNCOUNTABLE
(-)  They don´t have many  The store doesn´t have much
 pineapples butter.

 I didn´t eat many sweets  I don´t drink much water

(?) How many sweets did you eat? How much wáter do you drink?

4. THERE IS/ THERE ARE:

 Se usa there is en cosas C y U

 Se usa there are solo en las cosas C

COUNTABLE UNCOUNTABLE
(+)  There are some juice in the glass  There is some ice cream
in front of you
 There is some coffee on the counter
 There are some biscuits

 There is some chocolate

 There are some strawberries
 There is some flour

(?)  Are there any apples?  Is there any orange juice?

 Where are the carrots?  Is there any cereal?

 Are there any grapes?  Is there any salt?

(-)  There aren´t any vegetables  There isn´t any fruit

 There aren´t any cokies  There isn´t any milk in the fridge

5. FEW/ LITTLE:

Significa poco
Se usa few cuando son cosas C
Se usa Little cuando son cosas U
Se utiliza en frases positivas
