Updates to the standard for safety footwear

EN ISO 20345:2011

Construction of the rear section:


In this lower section, no hole other than
those required for stitching is permissible.

Resistance of the rear section to


abrasion (support zone):
In the laboratory test, no hole must appear
before the following number of cycles have
been completed:
51,200 cycles when dry
Anti-penetration inserts: 25,600 cycles when wet
The metal or textile insert must
offer total protection against
penetration.
At 1100N, the point must not
show any signs of penetration.

Height of the cleats:


Height of the cleats on the soles for S1/S2 or S3 category shoes:
The cleats must be over 2.5 mm deep.

Marking on the outsoles:


The claims marked on the outsoles must correspond to a function validated
by a normative test:
• “ Oil resistance ”
The sole must comply with the FO requirements that defines resistance to fuel oil.
• “ Antistatic”
The shoe must comply with electrical resistance measurements for antistatic requirements
of the standard.
• “ Acid resistance”
The shoe must be tested according to the EN 13832-1 standard, in line with the requirements
in paragraphs § 6.2.2.3 (deterioration tests).
• “Heat Resistant Outsole « HRO »”
The outsole must comply with the constraints of this additional requirement for the standard.
Additional changes
• Recertification requirement: New legislation requires the recertification, before 30th June 2013, of all products
certified under any previous version of the standard. This is a new requirement, as at the time of the previous
upgrade to the standard (from the 2004 version to the 2007 version), recertification was not mandatory.
• Removal of the I marking (Insulating): No longer possible to certify electrical insulating footwear under
EN ISO 20345:2011 standard. Electrically insulating shoes must fullfill EN 50321 standard.
• Resistance to fuel oil (FO): The FO is no longer a fundemental requirement,

but an additional requirement.
