WATERFLOOD SUSCEPTIBILITY TEST

Selected samples are:

 1-4-9P
 2-3-9P
 2-12-33P

The test consists on displacing oil by low salinity brine injection. Samples reach the
connate water value displacing water by oil. The next step is the injection of 15
pore volume of 18 gr/lt NaCl brine, measuring the fluids production. The operation
is redone, injecting a 50% dilute of original 18 gr/lt brine in fresh water in the
displacement step once the sample reaches the connate water value.

The effective permeability’s are measured at connate water and residual oil
saturation.

Samples 1-4-9P and 2-3-9P show similar results, the oil recovery increased about
6% with the dilute brine injection. Both samples are very permeable, especially
sample 1-4-9P.

It suggests that the clay content of samples and low salinity of brine improves the
recovery of oil.
The effective permeability to water drops, and mobility ratio is reduced, which
improves the displacement efficiency.

On the other hand, oil recovery of sample 2-12-33P is reduced. The low salinity
brine produced the swelling of clays and the low permeability of the sample drops
drastically causing a water block.
