1 Overview
1.1 Introduction
This document provides a high level description of LEMKO LTE SDR Outdoor
eNodeB L3SDR BS8900A (hereafter referred as BS8900A) used in LEMKO LTE total
solution. It is one outdoor macro BTS, providing all in one solution for power supply,
battery, and transmission integration.
LTE is a market driven technology (through operators), which offers higher data rate
(150Mbit/s downlink and 50Mbit/s uplink for each cell) with low latency and short call
set up delay that aim to improve end-user throughput, increase cell capacity, reduce
user plane latency, and consequently offer superior user experience with full mobility.
The flat, all IP-based network architecture and improved spectrum efficiency (2 to 4
times higher compared with HSPA Release 6) have laid the foundation for low cost
per bit delivery and overall Capital Expenditure (CAPEX)/Operation Expenditure
(OPEX) reduction.
Unlike other latest deployed technologies such as HSPA, LTE is contained within a
rd
new Packet Core architecture called Evolved Packet Core (EPC). Technically, 3
Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifies the EPC to support the E-UTRAN.
TCP/IP protocols are adopted in EPC, so LTE can support all IP-based services
including voice, on-line gaming, IPTV and message with end-to-end Quality of
Service (QoS). The EPC network architecture improves the connection and
hand-over to other fixed-line and wireless access technologies, which enables
operator to deliver a seamless mobility experience.
1.3 Benefits
BS8900A’s baseband unit can support all kinds of wireless access technologies
simultaneously, including GSM, UMTS, CDMA and LTE, which share the
common control function and transmission totally. It fully satisfies operators’
requirement of smooth migration from GSM/UMTS/CDMA with Baseband
Processing board replaced only.
BS8900A’s Radio System Unit (RSU) is fully software defined. GSM / UMTS /
CDMA RSU can be upgraded to LTE RSU at the same frequency band
through software update only. It supports multi-mode at the same frequency
band simultaneously. LEMKO’s SDR solutions can fully meet operators’
requirements of hybrid network deployment and long term evolution with
lowest cost.
RSU82 supports 2T2R or 2T4R and downlink 2*2 MIMO, which can optimize
spectrum efficiency greatly, improve network uplink performance; As a result,
it brings better customer experience with Higher Efficiency and Lower Power
Consumption.
Radio unit’s power amplifier adopts most advanced Doherty Power Amplifier
(PA), Digital PreDistortion (DPD) linear technology and Multi-Carrier Power
Amplifier (MCPA) technology.
It supports dynamic adaptive PA power supply due to the output power, which
reduces power consumption. The RSU’s power amplifier efficiency can reach up
to 45% (The PA efficiency is different based on different working frequency
bands).
Outdoor Macro BTS BS8900A adopts hermetic rack. It is water proof, dust proof,
EMC compatible to suit the outdoor application scenarios. BS8900A provides
IP55 protection capability, -40–55°C working temperature, and C class lightning
protection. BS8900A can provide a fast deployment, low cost and equipment

distribution shelf, fan shelf, baseband unit shelf, ventilation shelf, and additional
space reserved for transmission or other equipments. Outdoor RF cabinets are used
for containing radio unit, maximum supporting 6 RSUs. Battery cabinet supports
maximum 2×150AH battery.
BS8900A complete style is shown in the following figure, consisting of one BC8910A,
one RC8910A and one PC8910A.
BS8900A consists of two main parts: baseband unit and radio unit as shown in the
following figure.
There are mainly five parts in BC8910A: baseband unit, power supply system, power
distribution module, heat exchanging system and reserved space for transmission or
other equipments. Together with the fan system and ventilation vessel, the heat
exchanger located in the cabinet door makes the heat exchanging system. The fan
system contains fan control element (FCE) and 6 fans. Cable chute, lightning
protection and heater are not mandatory.
10
RC8910A consists of 6 RSUs and fan control system. Its physical appearance is
shown in the following figure.
