Local Upgrade
1 Introduction
Local Upgrade is used to upgrade the software in the following MINI-LINK units:
• SAU
• MINI-LINK E Micro
• RAU
2 System Requirements
Check that you have the following required items before installing and using
Local Upgrade:
1. Start the installation program by following the instructions that came with
the MINI-LINK Service Software CD-ROM.
Note: The new software will be activated automatically as soon as the new
software has been downloaded.
Note: P-Mark and Transmitter will remain unaffected. Loops will be turned off.
1. Connect the serial port on the PC to the O&M port on the unit you want to
upgrade. The unit must remain in its position in the access module, with
the power on.
Note: If you want to upgrade the RAU, connect the PC to the MMU.
2. On the Start menu, first click Programs and then Local Upgrade.
3. In the COM port list, select the COM port (serial communication port on the
PC) to which you have connected the equipment.
Note: If you want to install new load files (see Step 8 on page 5 on the
next page), click Install Load Files and select the files you want to
install.
Note: For MINI-LINK E MMUs: The radio must be connected to the MMU
when upgrading from an MMU software version earlier than R4A.
If the MMU software is of version R4A or later, you can upgrade
the software even if the radio is not connected, but this is not
recommended since the upgrade procedure takes longer time.
Note: If the version you want to install is not listed, click Cancel to return
to the Local Upgrade dialog where you can install new load files
by clicking Install Load Files (see Step 4 on page 4).
9. Click OK.
The Upgrade Progress dialog opens and remains open while the software
is upgraded. This takes 4 to 15 minutes depending on what type of unit
you are upgrading.
Caution!
Do not disconnect the cable between the PC and the unit you are upgrading
while the Upgrade Progress dialog is displayed.
If you want to stop the upgrade process before it is finished, click Abort
to cancel the process in a controlled way. This aborts the process and
restores the software to the original version.
10. After a successful upgrade, the program informs you that the process has
completed. Click OK to close the Upgrade Progress dialog and return to
the Local Upgrade dialog where you can continue to upgrade other units.
5 Troubleshooting
• The serial cable is connected to the O&M port on the right unit.
• You have selected the right COM port in the program (see Step 3 on page
4).
