1.08 DELIVERY AND STORAGE

A. Deliver materials in original unopened containers of packing clearly labelled with

manufacture’s name, brand name, and instruction for use, all Identifying numbers, and
UL Labels.

B. Store materials in a clean dry area protected from water and direct sunlight.

2.02 PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

A. Portable extinguishers shall have Stainless steel tank / Copper tank with polished and
clear coated finish shells with floor stand (injection moulded plastic shells shall be
considered for approval, when contents are not stored under pressure - i.e. those with
pressure cartridges) internal lining of polypropylene or similar material and external
enamel finish over rust proofing. Colour of finishing shall be coded as follows:

1. Carbon Dioxide Black

2. Water Red

3. BCF Green

4. Dry Powder Blue

B. Extinguishers shall have labels attached, which states the date of last inspection, next
due date and the name and address of the inspection agency.

1. Water pressure: 9 litres (2 gallons) capacity, stainless steel tank/copper tank

with polished and clear coated finish, pressurized with granular soda, flexible
discharge pipe with nozzle, trigger valve, controllable discharge

2. CO2: 6 Kg capacity, stainless / cast steel tank with pressure gage; flexible
discharge hose and long, plastic horn, trigger type operating lever and safety
locking pin

3. Dry powder: 5 kg capacity, stainless steel/cast steel tank with pressure gage,
flexible discharge hose and nozzle / fixed nozzle, trigger type operating lever,
safety locking pin, wall mounting bracket and integral mounting hook

4. BCF: 5 kg, stainless / cast steel tank with flexible discharge hose and nozzle,
trigger type operating lever and safety locking pin

2.03 WHEELED FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

A. Dry Powder

1. Large extinguisher with 25 / 50 kg powder, external nitrogen cylinder for

propelling the charge, 7.5 m long flexible hose with suitable discharge nozzle
etc., all mounted on a trolley with handle, brackets for winding the hose and
solid rubber tires

2. Suitable protective covers shall be provided for units exposed to the elements.

2.04 FIRE CABINETS

A. Sheet Metal Cabinets: Fabricated stainless steel sheet enclosures, suitable for
recessed or surface mounted installation, will have the following characteristics:

1. Joints of the cabinet shall be welded and ground smooth

2. Hinges shall be solid pin type (machined from steel rods), welded to cabinet
and door

3. Door edges shall be boxed and have recessed handle in stainless steel
escutcheon and cylinder lock with latch

4. View window shall be fitted with 4 mm thick, wired glass with inscriptions as
appropriate

5. Foam rubber strips shall be adhered to doorframe and under glass edges to
prevent rattling and to make the enclosure dust proof

6. Integral architrave shall be provided for recessed cabinets, as appropriate

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION

A. Section 01 31 19 – Projects Meetings.

B. Verify rough openings for cabinet are correctly sized and located.

3.02 INSTALLATION

A. Install cabinets plumb and level in wall openings, maximum 1220 mm from finished
floor to top of extinguisher handle.

B. Install wall brackets, maximum 1220 mm from finished floor to top of extinguisher
handle.

C. Secure rigidly in place.

D. Place extinguishers and accessories in cabinets or on wall brackets.

E. Position cabinet signage as required by KFD.

3.03 SCHEDULES

A. As indicated on the contract drawings and as required by KFD
