1 Boiler shut-down service

1.1 Service of boier after shutdown

1.1.1 The purpose and principles of boiler service

a) During boier shutdown, take service measures to reduce and avoid inner corrosion of
heating face.
b) No air shall enter into water and steam system tubes.
c) Keep dry water/steam system metal surface or form a protection membrane resisting
corrosion on metal surface.
d) When atmospheric temperature is<5℃, take anti-freezing measures on shutdown
equipments.
e) The means of service is subject to shutdown season and the duration, after
determining service scheme, inform chemical and other related personnel to prepare
for service as early as possible.

1.1.2 There are following methods for boiler service

a) Dry-type service;
b) Wet-type service;

1.1.3 Dry-type service

a) Discharge water from hot boiler and dry it with recorvery heat (boiler shutdown is less
than 2 weeks).
1) After boiler extinguishes, shall shut off each dampers, air valves, manhole valves,
and close furnace to prevent heat loss as earlier as possible.
2) When drum pressure drops to 0.5MPa, open intermittent blowdown valves,
economizer water discharge valves, emergency water discharge valves, carry out
a complete water discharge for boiler proper, thereafter it is strictly prohibited to
open drain valves, vent valves and air exhaust valves towards atmosphere.
3) When drum pressure drops to 0.172MPa gauge pressure, open air valves on the
upper part of boiler and all water discharge valves of each pipeline.
4) During discharging water, strictly monitor the temperature of each point of drum
wall, and the temperature difference between any two points shall be <32℃,
otherwise, timely make adjustment.
5) After boiler water is discharged out, then carry out drying with recovery heat, after
drying for 6-8 hours, contact chemical personnel to inspect on drying result.
6) After boiler dried, shut off all air valves and interminttent blowdown valves and
drain valves at each part, isolate boiler steam/water system from atmosphere and
public system to keep the dryness of boiler during service.

b) Drying method with hot air from adjacent furnace(Boiler shutdown duration is longer
than two weeks but less than one month).
c) Slightly open gas damper after water discharged from hot boiler, send 200℃-300℃ hot
air from adjacent furnace to air duct of this furnace for drying and heating.
d) Nitrogen filling method(within 4 days of boiler shutdown)
1) When steam pressure is over 0.5MPa, maintain normal ammonia and hydrazine
degree to replace water.
2) Fill nitrogen into superheater and drum and keep 0.0343 Mpa gauge pressure.
3) Under the condition of keeping 0.0343 Mpa gauge pressure, discharge boiler
water. Maintain 0.0343 MPa for service.
4) Operation preparation period after hydraulic test: fill nitrogen fully into economizer,
water wall, superheater and reheater and boost pressure to 0.0343MPa gauge
pressure.

1.1.4 Wet-type service

a) Steam pressure method(boiler shutdown less than 1 week)
1) The latter priod of boiler extinguishment: maintain drum pressure at 0.5MPa.
2) Check up and shut off drain valves of superheater, economizer, downcomer and
desuperheating water system, and shut off vent valves of drum, economizer and
supherheater.
3) Close manholes and inspection holes, shut off all smoke and gas dampers,
dampers of IDF, FD fan and PA fan, and try to reduce the speed of pressure
falling.
4) When drum pressure is lower than 0.5MPa, input furnace bottom heating and keep
drum pressure above 0.5MPa.
5) Check up boiler water dissolved oxygen and PH value.

b) Feedwater pressure method(boiler shutdown less than 1 week)

After boiler shutdown, keep highest visible water level of boiler, replace boiler water with
deaerated feedwater until boiler water is clear, and phosphate is less than 1mg/L, and use water
pressure to maintain the pressure at 0.5-1.0MKp.

c) Ammonia-hydrozine method(boiler shutdown longer than 1 week)

1) Apply desalinated water or cooling condensate water containing hydrazine with
200ppm and ammonia with 10ppm to fill into superheater and reheater, and the PH
value of these solution approaches 10 or above, and add water to the outlet of part
unable to drain.
2) In the water on the water wall, economizer and feedwater heater pipe side and
connecting pipelines, add hydrazine and ammonia concentration, and their values
are 200ppm and 10ppm respectively.
3) Fill nitrogen full to superheater and drum and keep 0.034MPa gauge pressure, and
the nitrogen purity shall be kept above 95%.
4) Use nitrogen to fully fill the shell side at feedwater heater.

1.1.5 The maintenance of boiler during service period

a) Check up the nitrogen pressure on each shift to keep it at 0.0343MPa gauge pressure.
b) Periodically check up nitrogen concentration.
c) During long-term service, sample once a week from service system, and analyze the
content of NH3-N2H4.
d) After maintenance, if cannot start immediately, inject desalinated water with 10ppm
ammonia and 200ppm hydrazine, and add nitrogen pressure as 0.0343MPa gauge
pressure.
