Reinforced Concrete Design Seat Work No.1 (25 points additional for Quizzes)

Name: VALERIO,SUN M Date: May 9, 2018

Section: v76 Engr. SJCClemente
Student Number: 201411103

Instructions:

Solve all the problems with correct and complete solutions. Use your student number and age to
determine other given. Type the solution in a word format preferably used software like mathtype
for typing equations. Pass your answer before the deadline indicated in the CANVASS. Late
papers will not be entertained. DO NOT COPY the work of your classmates, any indication of
copied works will be a deduction of 100 points on your quizzes. Again, type the solutions and use
cad for the diagrams.

Problem No.1 Design the shear reinforcement

fc’=28Mpa
fyt=276Mpa
stirrups diameter = 10mm

Wll = 20(1+ 21/10)

W = 1.2(33) + 1.6(62)
= 135.56 kn/m

Vu = 441.7 kn
Vc = (0.17)(1)(sqrt(28))(275)(325)/1000 =80.398
Vsmax = (0.66)(sqrt(28))(275)(325)/1000=312.133
Vs = (441.7- (.75)(80.398))/0.75= 508.535

Vs VsMax
508.535>312.133

Vs is greater than Vs max therefore inadequate

Problem No.2 Calculate the allowable uniform load W that the beam could carry base on
flexure. Assume diameter of stirrups = 10mm.

fc’ = 24.5Mpa (3-4)

fy=345Mpa(odd)

Max moment = W(5.50)^2/12 = 2.521W

d’ = 50
d = 425 – 40 – 10 – (80-26.667)

As’ = 402.134
As = 1206.372
Beta = 0.85 - .05/7(24.5-28)
=.875
=.85

Assume both yielding

AsFy = 0.85fc’(Beta)(c)(b) + As’(Fy)

1206.372(345) = .85(24.5)(.85)(c)(275)+ 402.134(345)

c = 56.999 mm
a= 48.449

Fs = 600 ( 321.667-56.999)/56.999
=2786.028
Fs’ =600(56.999-50)/56.999
=73.67 -NOT YIELDING
WRONG ASSUMPTION
Therefore: Use Fs’ for tension bars

1206.372(345)=0.85(24.5)(0.85)(c)(275)+402.134(600(c-50)/c)

c=70.892 mm
a= 60.258mm

Fs = 600(321.667-70.892)/70.392
= 2137.53
Fs’ = 600(70.892-50)/70.892
= 176.821

Mn1= C(d-a/2)
Mn2=C(d-d’)

Mn1= 0.85(24.5) (60.258) (275) (321.667-60.258/2) / 10^6

Mn1 = 100.607

Mn2 = 402.134(600(60.258-50)/60.258)(321.667-50)
Mn2 = 11.159

Mu = (ReductionFactor)(Mn1+Mn2)
Reduction Factor = .65 + ( Es-.002)(250/3_
Es = .003(321.667-70.892)/70.892
=0.0106123
Reduction Factor = 1.36 = default to 0.90

Mu = 0.9( 100.607+11.159)
=100.589

100.589 = 2.521W
W= 39.9 kn/m ANSWER
