0 Instructor Notes (Full Day class)

These are the instructor notes for the HV11.0 rewrite class that lasts 8 hours.

Introductions: Find out what type of post processing each student does. Based on their
responses, you can tailor the class to the students needs. For example, if
no one does crash analysis, skip this chapter and if time, do it at the end,
etc.

Chapter 1: Although not mentioned in the slides, open up HV after completing the slides
(before the exercise) and show the GUI. This may not be needed if they are
taking this class with the HM Intro class, but if they aren’t it is worth
demoing.

Chapter 2: At the end of the slides, do a single demo. You can use the same file as the
exercise (truck.key and d3plot) or you can use the car_282.case file (more
about this file below). Be sure to demo both the Entity Attributes panel and
the Result Browser. Then mask a few entities and create a set. If using the
car_282.case file, be sure to select the CFD SC Tetra Ensight reader. Use
the Browser or panel to turn on/off components until only the wall
component is left.

Chapter 3: The Demos in this chapter use the file Postprocessing_demo.inp and
Postprocessing_demo.odb.

The first demo covers Contour, Tensor and Querying. For Creating Contour
and Tensor Plots, do a high level demo of the contour and tensor panels (be
sure to overlay tensor plots on the contour plot). Then use the Results
Browser to create contours/tensors. Be sure to go over Creating Plot Styles
and how to use the Plot Styles in the Results Browser. Then do a quick
demo on querying results and the Advanced Query panel. Don’t spend too
much time on this as they will be using advanced query in the exercise.

The second demo covers Annotations and Creating Measures. First make
sure that a contour plot with average results is being displayed in the
graphics area. For Annotations, use the notes panel to create a note (attach
to window or entity). Then use the notes panel to identify a local hotspot (for
procedure, see Chapter 3, Slide 46). Then create a Measure using Nodal
Contour and create a plot. Finally create a Measure group using Node Path
and also create a plot.

The third demo covers Derived Results. Use the Derived Results
functionality to create a new result type called Stress Amplitude. This
derived result is calculated using the P1(major) and P3(Minor) components
of stress. The equation will be:

abs(P1(major)-P3(minor)/2

See the Manual for a picture of what the Derived Result GUI will look like.
Chapter 4: The first demo is for Plotting XY Data and Evaluating Curve Data. You really
can use any plotting file you want to do this demo. The file demo.dat is
provided if you would like to use this file.

For the second demo on Changing Curve Display Attributes, continue

working with the demo.dat file and use the functions listed about to make
changes to the session.

For the third demo on Modifying Plots and Curve filtering, use the file
saefilter.mvw provided to illustrate these functions.

Chapter 5: For the first demo use the files Postprocessing_demo.inp and
Postprocessing_demo.odb. For viewing deformed shapes, be sure to use
Loadstep 3 or 4 and select a Mode. For Contouring complex results and
Creating Measure of Contour vs. Angle, use Loadstep 4.

A demo is not done for calculating the Part Total Strain Energy as this is
covered in the second exercise. For the demo on Creating Complex Plots
and NVH Utilities, just quickly demo these topics. Quickly create a complex
plot (using the file modal_participation.f06). As for the NVH Utilities, show
them the User Profile and how to access the Tools. If you are comfortable
with using the Tools, you can go into more details (using the provided files in
the folders Modal Participation and Order Analysis. Each folder has the
necessary files and a webex – please do not distribute anything in this
folder). Lastly create a waterfall plot using the file trimmer.mvw.

Chapter 6: The first demo uses the Explorer.h3d file to illustrate the measure group
(distance between and position), Section Cuts, and Vector Plots. Be sure to
show how to create a vector plot on a Section Cut. First a Section Cut must
be created. Then in the Vectors panel, the Section cut can be selected.

For the second demo, quickly use the Explorer.h3d model to illustrate how
tracking tracing and the exploded view panels work. Image overlay and
Sync isn’t demoed as there is an extensive exercise on these topics.

The topic for the third demo are best shown with truck.key and the d3plot
file. Use the example for Collision Detection shown in the slides/manual and
demo that.

Chapter 7: No specific demos are suggested. Demo with any models you want for the
topics you want to demo. There are extensive exercises for each topic
presented.
