If the device is greater than 20' in length, it will require 3 baffles. If it is 10'-20' in length, it will require 2 baffles.
If it is less than 10', it will require 1 baffle.
OPTION 6: Alternative Designs

IMPORTANT: Before using Option 6, be sure that the information in Step 1 is accurate!

There may be cases where the RUSLE2 Analysis (Option 4) yields an excessive number of devices to achieve
storage requirements, and site constraints disallow infiltration and skimmer basin (option 5) installation.
Therefore it will be necessary to utilize the option below that best fits your situation. The 60 Day Option
is not available for projects involving HQW or Trout Waters.

30 DAY OPTION
Under these circumstances it will be necessary to provide a minimum of 23% of the storage calculated using
the RUSLE2 analysis (Option 4) during the Clearing and Grubbing Phase. This section must then be permanently
stabilized within 30 days from the time clearing and grubbing begins. This is derived from Table 2-1
of the Level III Reference Manual which indicates that for any given 30 day period in NC, the maximum amount of
Rainfall Energy that can be expected is 23% of the annual total.

In this situation:
23% of RUSLE2 Required Volume: 0.00 ft3
Design Depth (ft): 3 3
Proposed Basin Side Slopes: 1.5 :1 side slopes

Silt Basin Type B Minimum 2:1 (L:W) Ratio

Verify Storage (ft3)
OK
*PAM must be introduced by a minimum of 1 Wrapped Type A Rock Silt Check or Wattle upgrade from this outlet device.
Wattles are required for Trout or HQW waters.

60 DAY OPTION
Under these circumstances it will be necessary to provide a minimum of 43% of the storage calculated using
the RUSLE2 analysis (Option 4) during the Clearing and Grubbing Phase. This section must then be permanently
stabilized within 60 days from the time clearing and grubbing begins. This is derived from Table 2-1
of the Level III Reference Manual which indicates that for any given 60 day period in NC, the maximum amount of
Rainfall Energy that can be expected is 43% of the annual total.

In this situation:
43% of RUSLE2 Required Volume: 0.00 ft3
Design Depth (ft): 3 3
Proposed Basin Side Slopes: 1.5 :1 side slopes

Silt Basin Type B Minimum 2:1 (L:W) Ratio

Suggested Top Width (ft): 0
Suggested Top Length (ft) 0
Final Design Top Width (ft): 0
Final Design Top Length (ft): 0
Final Design Depth (ft): 3
Weir Width (ft): 0
0.00
Verify Storage (ft3)
OK
*PAM must be introduced by a minimum of 1 Wrapped Type A Rock Silt Check or Wattle upgrade from this outlet device.

*Note on the EC Plan whether the 30 or 60 day option is used.

GENERAL NOTES:
*If the project involves HQW or Trout Waters, wattles in conjunction with PAM (polyacrylamide) must be installed according
to Step 3 and Option 4 above. If Step 3 does not call for velocity control, an additional wattle will be required
up the grade to deliver the PAM during a runoff event. PAM should not be placed on the last BMP at the outlet.
*If the project does not involve HQW or Trout Waters, install the Type B Rock Silt Checks (TRSC-B) or wattles according to Step 3 and the
Wrapped Type A Rock Silt Checks (TRSC-A) or Wattles according to Option 4. If Option 4 only calls for 1 Wrapped TRSC-A or
wattle, an additional Wrapped TRSC-A or wattle will be required up the grade to deliver the PAM during a runoff event.
PAM should not be placed on the last BMP at the outlet.
*Baffles are required for Silt Basin Type B, infiltration and skimmer basins that are located at drainage turnouts.
-If the device is greater than 20'' in length, it will require 3 baffles. If it is 10''-20'' in length, it will require 2 baffles.
-If it is less than 10', it will require 1 baffle.
*If the Silt Basin Type B, infiltration or skimmer basin can not be installed properly due to the
steepness of the ditchline grade, recommend utilizing the Tiered Basin method to ensure sediment storage is achieved.
*Install a Type A Rock Silt Check or Wattle in conjunction with the Silt Basin Type B, infiltration or skimmer basin.
*Always show required device and dimensions on EC Plan per spreadsheet. If Option 6 is used, note on the plans if this site
must be stabilized within 30 or 60 days from the time clearing and grubbing begins.

EC Design for Secondary Road Construction
Guidelines for EC Design Spreadsheet
Note: All equation, table and figure references are referring to the Level III EC Design Reference Manual.
Step 1 Input project information.
- All information is required except for the elevations.
- It is no longer a requirement to consider all blueline streams as HQW for design purposes. Only mark the section as HQW
falls with a HQW zone as defined by the Division of Water Quality.
- Visit http://portal.ncdenr.org/web/wq/ps/csu/classifications
- Use the diagram to locate your stream by using River Basin, County, Index number, or the clickable maps.
~~~~High Quality Waters have the following classifications:
a. Water Supply I (WS-I)
b. Water Supply II (WS-II)
c. Outstanding Resource Waters (ORW)
d. High Quality Water (HQW)
e. Shellfish Waters (SA)
~~~~http://portal.ncdenr.org/web/wq can provide additional information.
~Determine if the stream is classified as Trout waters by visiting http://portal.ncdenr.org/web/wq/ps/csu/classifications
as well. Trout waters are designated by the "Tr" symbol.
~Station numbers must be entered in order for the length of run to be calculated.
~The ditchline percent grade must be entered manually into cell D10. If elevations are known, they can be entered adjacen
corresponding station number and the percent grade will be calculated. You must then enter this number into cell D10.
~Determine the drainage area for your outlet point. Acquire topo map info for the project and determine the drainage area
outlet point. Include topo map or other documentation with drainage area outlined and calculations of drainage area. The
area will include onsite as well as offsite runoff that is draining to your outlet point.
If the drainage area is 1 acre or greater, surface dewatering devices must be utilized and Option 5 and Option 6 will be the o
available.
It is preferable that the drainage area be kept < 3 acre. Diversion berms or other devices should be considered to divert offs
from draining to your outlet point.
~Determine whether or not your section is Typical or Non-Typical. Typical Sections are considered those roadway sections w
conventional back slope cuts (<10'), front slope fills, and shoulders where the drainage area and disturbed area are basicall
but less than 3 acres. Non-Typical sections are those roadway sections with steep back slope cuts (>10') or fill slopes or hav
coming onto the project from off the right of way with drainage areas greater than 3 acres.
~For Non-Typical sections, RUSLE2 must be utilized or Option 5 will be the only option available. Answer the question as to
not you will be using RUSLE2. Typical sections do not require using the actual RUSLE2 program because the equation in Opti
derived from data gathered from the RUSLE2 program.
~Enter in the following:
~~ Regression Constant, C- values on Table 2-7 (Tables and Figures Tab)
~~ Rainfall Factor , R-values on Fig. 2-1 (Tables and Figures Tab)
~~ RUSLE Soil Erodibility Factor for the B-horizon, K- values on Table 2-2 (Tables and Figures Tab) or utilize
http://soildatamart.nrcs.usda.gov/ website to find the needed parameter.
~~ Enter in Soil Type. Include label and name.
Step 2 Utilize the Required Liner Tab to determine proper ditch liner for run that is being designed for. Note the recommen
the EC plan.
Step 3 Automatically determines the required spacing for Rock Silt Check Type-B’s OR Wattles (velocity control only). The o
should be protected by the device(s) given in Option 4, 5, or 6. Starting from the outlet point uses the calculated spacing to

Option 4 Obtaining storage requirements for drainage areas < 1 acre.
Option 4 is divided up into 3 sections to accommodate Typical and Non-Typical sections.
~For Typical Sections, Option 4A can be used to determine the required storage.
~~ The spreadsheet will use Module 2 Eq. 5, V = CRKs, to obtain the design volume (ft^3/ac/yr).
~~ The disturbed area will then be used to calculate the required sediment storage (ft^3).
~~ The ditchline slope is in ft/ft, s value. (ex. 1% slope = 0.01 ft/ft). This is calculated automatically by the percent grade give
~~The Required Storage is shown in cell F51 and you are asked to proceed to Option 4C.
~For Non-Typical Sections, Option 4B can be used to determine the required storage.
~~ This step will require you to use the RUSLE2 software program to model your particular section and then enter the Sedim
Delivery from RUSLE2 into cell F56. Cell F56 should be zeroed out if not in use.
