Def: Immune mediated injury of the glomerulus

Injury Mechanisms:

Primary: Immune complex either:

1. Formed and found circulating:

a. Endogeneously released DNA, nuclear proteins, Igs
b. Exogeneously introduced Ag: infectious agent or drug
2. Formed in glomerulus by virtue of fixed/ resident Ag in glomerulus:
a. Collagen type 4
b. Heymann Ag
c. Messangial Ag

Secondary: that now cause glomerulo damage + increased permeability

1. Platelet aggregation
2. Neutrophil dependent mechanisms of inflamation
3. Fibrin deposition
4. Complement activation
5. Kinnin system activation
