Adverbs
ADJECTIVES ADVERBS
Adjectives tell us about a noun: Adverbs tell us about a verb:

Carla is a careful driver. Carla drives carefully.

quick serious adjective + -ly


careful quiet
bad slow quickly seriously
heavy sudden carefully* quietly
badly slowly
Not all words ending in -ly are adverbs. Some heavily* suddenly
adjectives end in -ly:
* pay attention to spelling
friendly lively lonely elderly

We can also use adverbs before adjectives and before other adverbs:

reasonably cheap (adverb + adjective)


incredibly quickly (adverb + adverb)
SPECIAL CASES

early early
late late *
hard hard **
* lately = recently
hardly = very little

sometimes the adverb.
