Yi Jin Jing

Note: This text covers only the movement part of Yi Jin Jing. Gotta find out
tempo, breathing and a deeper look at focus or mentalization.

Note: I saw some differences on the same movement when done in different
parts of the video (initial demo versus step by step, or even step by step alone
versus side demonstration). I choose the one that made more sense to me at
the moment.

- Intro text to Yi Jin Jing here -

The whole Yi Jin Jing described here consists of two preparations steps (A.-
Raise palm & B.- Preparation), plus the twelve movements described in many
other resources.

A.- [16:45] Raise palm

The objective of this movement is to concentrate qi.

Begin with feet slightly wider than

shoulder width apart.
Extend the arms with open palms to
both sides and rise them. The palms
started facing the body, as you go up
they face forward.

As you get close to the top, palms

start facing each other and arms start
moving from the side towards the
front.
At the top, place both palms touching
each other.

As seen from the side, the hands are

not directly above the head but a
little forward. At this point gather qi,
and as you descend, let it go through
the whole body.

Start descending with both palms still

togheter and bring them to your
chest. Eyes are fixed forwards.
B.- [17:53] Preparation form

This reverses most of the first movement, but instead of ending with both
hands at the sides of the body, they end up stacked on each other by the
waist.

Reverse the movement by going up

with both palms togheter. (Look up as
you reach the top? Saw him do it on
the demo at the beginning and end)

Separate them and start bringing

them down from each side.
As you descend, the palms move from
facing forward to facing down and
finally towards the body.

Here we've almost reversed the whole

movement, hands are facing each
other at this stage but a little forward
from the body. This time we won't
rest our hands by the side.

Start bending the elbows and let the

right hand go above the left hand.
Stack both hands right over left, and
keep raising the hands until you reach
waist level.

1.- [18:58] Form 1 – Wei Tuo Presents Pestle (First posture)

This is the first posture of the Yi Jin Jing and is divided into three movements.

Start raising your arms from the side.

As you go up, bring the arms a little
back so you create a slightly circular
motion.

Stop going up at shoulder's height.

As your arms reach shoulder's height,
you should already be taking your
arms forward.

Finish the semi circular motion by

getting both arms in front of you. The
arms should reach this point still
straight.

Once you reach the front with straight

arms, bend slightly at the elbow all in
a single movement. Imagine you're
holding an evil-surendering pestle at
the position of the elbow joint. Palms
are roughly shoulder height level.
Start pulling both palms towards your
body by bending your elbows.

Get your hands all the way to your

body, the thumbs press at the chest.
Elbows are at shoulder height. Eyes
look forward directly. Rise qi and hold
breath.

2.- [20:45] Form 2 – Wei Tuo Presents Pestle (Second posture)

This is the second part of Wei Tuo Presents Pestle.

Both hands begin to rise gently from
their previous position. First turn the
hands so that the palms face down.
Here you can see the elbows have
already dropped a bit.

As you allow your hands to pass from

being in front to your body, to being
in line with it, the elbows drop a bit
more and now palms face each other.

From here continue turning the hands

so now the fingers point to each side
with the palms facing up.
Finish this motion by extending the
arms to your side. Palms should be
facing up.

Now begin lowering your arms, bring

them a little bit back before moving
them towards the front of your body
in a small circular motion. Both arms
remain straight and palms move from
facing up to facing forward.
Bring both arms close until they're
roughly shoulder width apart. From
this position, instead of bringing them
closer, start rising both arms whilst
keeping them straight up to roughly a
45º angle.

Once you reach the 45º angle, keep

raising your palms but this time
bending at the elbow, this will keep
the elbow at a fixed position. Bring
your palms up until they're roughly at
the level of your cheeks, as if you
were holding something at the same
height as your head.
(In some parts, he brings his arms
straight all the way up. This version
allows for a swift movement if
everything is done in a single motion)
At this point, start rotating your hands
while keeping the palms up as if to
avoid droping that something you
were holding. The rotation is towards
the outside, so your fingers that were
pointing forward should begin to point
to your side and end up pointing
behind you.

As you rotate, bring your palms from

being in front of you, to being directly
above your shoulders, this will require
you to move your elbows up and out a
little bit during the rotation. Keep
your eyes looking directly to the
front. Once you reach this position,
imagine you're about to rise something
very heavy.

3.- [22:18] Form 3 – Wei Tuo Presents Pestle (Third posture)

This is the third part of Wei Tuo Presents Pestle.
