BusinessObjects Enterprise
BusinessObjects Enterprise has undergone a user interface refresh. Both
the InfoView application and the Central Management Console (CMC) have
new and improved workflows.

Web Application Container Server (WACS)

The Web Application Container Server is a service that hosts the Central
Management Console (CMC) for users that are installing BusinessObjects
Enterprise on a Windows environment and don't want to deploy the CMC to
a Java application server.

WACS requires a minimum effort to install, maintain, and configure, and

provides an administrative interface that is consistent with other
BusinessObjects Enterprise servers.

For more information about WACS, see Chapter 9: Working with the Web
Application Container Server in the BusinessObjects Enterprise
Administrator's Guide.

Web Intelligence

Document autosave and recovery

Web Intelligence now protects your work by automatically saving documents
before a server timeout, and at defined intervals while the document is open.

Query, prompt and report information in free-standing cells

You can quickly add details of queries, prompts and report filters to a Web
Intelligence document by using three new pre-defined free-standing cells:
• The Query Summary cell uses the QuerySummary function to provide
information on the queries in the document.
• The Prompt Summary cell uses the PromptSummary function to provide
information on the prompts in the document.
• The Report Filter Summary cell uses the ReportFilterSummary function
to provide information on all the report filters in the document.

Simple report filters

Simple report filters provide an easy, convenient and highly-visible way of
filtering data through a new toolbar.

Lists of values in prompts

The formula language is enhanced with new data comparison capabilities:
• The Previous function is enhanced to allow you to compare a value with
any previous value.
• The new RelativeValue function allows you to perform complex
data-slicing comparisons that are independent of the report layout.
There are various other updates to the formula language:
• Running calculations (for example RunningAverage) are not reset in a
new section.
• Previous does not carry the last value of a row to the beginning of the
next row in a crosstab.

Voyager
In BusinessObjects XI 3.1, BusinessObjects Voyager contains new features
and enhancements that are focused on improving productivity and depth of
analysis. These features and enhancements include new data visualizations,
updated OLAP server support, and new interoperability with Crystal Reports
and Web Intelligence.

Data visualizations
Voyager brings four new data visualizations to users:
• Box plot charts
• Scatter charts
• Bubble charts
• Radar charts

22 What's New in BusinessObjects XI 3.1

New features in existing products
Voyager 5
Box plot charts offer a way to view the lowest, lower quartile, median, upper
quartile and highest values for series of data. Scatter charts can be used to
highlight correlations in data, with bubble charts adding the additional
opportunity to visualize a third variable on top of the two usually associated
with a scatter chart. Radar charts can be used to easily compare performance
of items for several measures.

Additionally, the toolbar and menus have been enhanced to enable easy
selection of the increasingly diverse types of visualization.

Exception Highlighting enhancements

Exception highlighting identifies anomalies in your data, and Voyager
exception highlighting now includes several automatic color choice options
so that users no longer need to manually specify colors for each highlighting
range.

In BusinessObjects XI 3.1, Voyager provides single-click interaction to enable

a selection of new exception highlighting models. These include “shades of
red”, “shades of green”, and “hot and cold”, to highlight degrees of diversion
from a target value, along with the more traditional “good or bad” and “traffic
light” exception highlight models.

Also, the chosen color schemes can be easily reversed with the click of a
single button.

Interoperability with Web Intelligence and Crystal Reports

To enable analysis to extend beyond the numeric world of OLAP data into
the textual world of relational data, Voyager introduces the ability to pass
contextual information to Web Intelligence and Crystal Reports. This capability
allows interesting information found during a Voyager analysis session to be
augmented with information from other data sources and distributed to a
wider audience.

Favorite groups
For increased productivity, Voyager users can create and save their own
favorite groups of members from all dimensions, for easy access at a later
time. These favorite groups are always available whenever a user starts a
new analysis.

What's New in BusinessObjects XI 3.1 23

5 New features in existing products
Dashboard and Analytics

Display cube update time

It is important that users can trust the data they are using. In BusinessObjects
XI 3.1, Voyager displays the date and time when the data cube was last
updated, for those providers that enable this information. Users can then
see at all times how current their data is.

Printing enhancements
There is now greater flexibility when performing "Data" printing, with the
added ability to change the font size, specify the number of columns, repeat
headings across pages, and indent members according to their positions in
the hierarchy.

Undo and Redo

In BusinessObjects XI 3.1, Voyager introduces the ability to undo and redo
previous actions. This provides additional confidence because users can
quickly revert back to earlier states or layouts.

Support for Microsoft Analysis Services 2008

Voyager now supports the next major release of Microsoft's OLAP server.

IPv6 network support

Voyager now supports networks that use the new IPv6 standard.

Platform updates
Voyager now supports the latest Microsoft operating systems: Vista for the
Voyager client, and Windows 2008 for the MDAS Server.

Support for Linux Redhat 5 is added.

Versions 8 and 9 of Adobe Acrobat are now supported.

Voyager also extends its support to the Apple Macintosh and the Safari
version 3 web browser.

Dashboard and Analytics

The following enhancements are available in Dashboard Builder:

24 What's New in BusinessObjects XI 3.1

New features in existing products
Universe Designer 5
• A Print button has been added to the dashboards, so that you can print
one or more tabs and sub tabs in a dashboard.
• While editing dashboards in the Template Layout mode, you can chose

a Web Service user will be required to choose values or enter values in order
for the input columns to be calculated. The data for the input columns can
be the following:

• Values hard-coded when you create the universe

• Values provided by the end user (after a prompt), or selected from a list
• Values provided via a join with another table
For more information about this feature, refer to Chapter 3 of the Universe
Designer User's Guide.

SQL statements can be prefixed with the Begin_SQL function

The new SQL parameter Begin_SQL can be configured to insert SQL orders
that will be executed before BusinessObjects-generated SQL statements.
This ensures that the orders are executed before all generated SQL
statements. This function works with any database that supports passing
parameters before the SELECT statement. The following are some examples
of use:
• Teradata: monitor and manage DB usage based on query origin details
provided within the executed SQL
• Oracle: turn on read only transaction
• Netezza: trigger optimization options
For more information about this feature, refer to Chapter 9 of the Universe
Designer User's Guide.
