A Two Day All India Seminar was organised by The Institution of Engineers(India), Durgapur local centre in
association with Student Technician Chapter on 29 th to 30th August 2015 on “Advancements and Trends in
Engineering & Technology Management ( ATETM-2015 )” Under the aegis of PRDB.
The graced by, Chief guest of the programme Dr. N.K.Ghosh, General Manager & I/C -RDCIS – SAIL and Guest of Honor
Dr. Nilotpal Bannerjee, Professor, Deptt. Of Mechanical Engg, National Institute of Technology, Durgapur and Dr.
Gautam Bandyopadhyay, HOD-Management Studies, National Institute of Technology, Durgapur.

The Gathering was welcomed by Chairman- Technical, Prof H.B.Goswami and the programme details were briefed by
by Er. J.Konar, Chairman, Durgapur Local Centre of IE(I). Programme was inaugurated by Lighting the Lamps and
releasing the Souvenir of All India Seminar on “Advancements and Trends in Engineering & Technology
Management (ATETM-2015)” by Guests.

Chief Guest Dr. N.K.Ghosh, focused on the theme of the programme. He addressed about the phases of Technology
cycle and how the technology & innovations take shape by making wonders , the advancements in technology
resulting comforts for human society, improved life expectancy and others issues of environment etc.

Guest of Honor Prof. Nilotpal Bannerjee , delivered his talk on “ How the different terms of Seminar topic are inter
linked to a sustainable technological growth “. He clarified with examples about the Advancements, Trends,
Innovations, Engineering, Technology Management in line with the Production Management.

Guest of Honor Dr. Gautam Bandyopadhyay presented his technical talk on “ Improvement of Sinter Quality by
Reduction of -5mm size fraction below 7% through statistical analysis of the process parameter” to increase
productivity with giving brief introduction to the Requirement of Such seminar in present scenario of Make India
Movement.

The Technical Session-I started with Invited Talks by Mr.Asish Kumar Chowdhury ,Chief Scientist-CSIR-Central
Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, Durgapur and Dr. Chinmoy Samajadar AGM- DSP-SAIL.

Mr. Ashis Kr. Chowdhury delivering his talk Dr. Chinmoy Samajadar presenting & Interacting with
Gathering

Mr. Ashis Kr. Chowdhury , addressed the gathering on R&D Management with focus on CSIR-Central Mechanical
Engineering Research Institute . He had presented with visuals on the R&D initiatives & outcomes of the CSIR-CMERI
in last few decades.

Dr. Chinmoy Samajadar presented his talk on “Raw Materials changes and new technology for Indian steel
industries (Emerging Technologies for Indian Steel Industry)”. He had shared about the new Steel Technologies and
their advantages. In nut shell, he had emphasized about the Materials, Technologies and its management in Steel
Sector.

Er. D.P.Das, Reseach Scholar-NIT, Technical Officer-CSIR-CMERI presented his research paper on “Study of Twin Shell
RCC Chimney under Dynamic Forces”. He explained it’s requirement & advantages and also about the constrains.

Technical Session-II, was conducted under Chairmanship of Dr.N.C.Murmu, FIE and Mr. Atar Singh ,Director-NPTI,
Durgapur. Authors Presented their Papers as followings:

1) Mr. Amitabh Bhattacharyya, Ex-GM (Quality), SAIL,DSP & Former Head, Department of Business

Topic: Smart Materials, Structures and Systems – An Overview
2) Dr. A.K. Lohar, Pr. Scientist- CSIR-CMERI
Topic: Influence of selected parameters in Additive Manufacturing Process
3) Dr. D Ghosh, Pr. Scientist- CSIR-CMERI
Topic: Failure Analysis of Engineering Components
4) Mr. Shrikant Vidya- Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engg., C.V. Raman College of Engineering,
Bhubaneswar
Topic: Micro-Electro-Discharge Machining (Micro-EDM):- A Prominent Tool For Micro-Manufacturing

Dr. N.C.Murmu presented the outcomes of technical presentations by mentioning the advancements of engineering
materials, manufacturing procedures and it’s well managed applications will widen the new engineering horizon.

Technical Session –III , was conducted by Session Chair -Prof. Dr.N.Banerjee- NIT and Authors Presented their Papers
were as per followings:

Dr. Banerjee addressed the gathering regarding presentations and welcomed the industrial participation for better
management of technology, where advancements and trends of engineering and technology blended with
management.

Technical Session-IV & Valedictory Session Were Conducted. Following Guests delivered their technical
Presentations.

Prof.(Dr.) Amitabha Sinha ,Principal, B.C.Roy Engg.College (Ex. Director , School Of Engg. & Technology , West Bengal
University of Technology) addressed the gathering with his technical presentation on “Field Programmable Analog
Array “. He has concluded with benefits of FPAA , how it provides flexibility to the designer for a wide range of
applications and maintains balance between cost , performance and flexibility through programming and
reduction in 1)development time, 2) Risk factor & 3) Time to market.

Valedictory session is in progress.Chairman Mr J Konar Release of CD of souvenir by the chief guest and guest ohonor
was addressing and sitting left to right-SecretaryMr R K along with Chairman and secretary of DLC-IE(I)
Roy,Dr Amitabha Sinha,Dr Ranjan Sen,Dr S Shome

Chief Guest of the Session Dr. S. Shome-Chief Scientist & Dean-School Of Mechatronics, CSIR-CMERI delivered his
presentation on “Interdisciplinary collaborative research : Mobile Robotics “. He had given the out sketch of Robot,
it’s basics, revolutions, application & Future Prospects of Robotics. He had also talked of a moral story of
Interdisciplinary collaborative work and the ways to Success.

Guest of Honor , Dr. Ranjan Sen, Chief Scientist, CSIR-CMERI, Visiting Professor and Vice Chairman- Metrology
Society of India presented his talk on” Why do we need Precision measurements? And how? “ in context to aim of the
seminar. He had addressed the importance of measurement systems and it’s engineering impacts followed by details
of procedures, calculations and level of precisions etc.

CD containing the Abstracts and Papers were released by Guests, followed by distribution of Participation and
presentation Certificate by Er. J.Konar, Chairman, Durgapur LC(IEI).

The Programme was attended by professionals and students from M/s SAIL, M/s DVC, M/s Alstom Projects , NPTI,
NIT, CSIR-CMERI, DIATM,BCREC, C.V. Raman College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar , Dronacharya Group of
Institutions, Greater Noida, India , IE(I) Technicians and others.

The two day seminar was formulated, Co-ordinated and Executed by Er.S.Islam and Er.Manoja Kumar Biswal.

At the end Hony. Secretary Er R K Roy gave vote of thanks to all Dignitaries, Speakers, Invitees, Delegates from
Institutes & Industry, Students and Corporate Members present.
