MATLAMAT (GOALS) :

This course introduces students to communication system principles, transmission media and modulation technique.

SINOPSIS (SYNOPSIS):

This course emphasize on the competency to explore and demonstrate the elements of communication system principles,
transmission media and modulation technique. Both modulation techniques, analogue and digital will be introduced in theory and
practical approach. The transmission media covers guided media and unguided media commonly used for communication
technology. Several application used in communication technology will be introduced and experiment for transporting data and
voice information.
HASIL PEMBELAJARAN (LEARNING OUTCOMES):

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:


1. Distinguish digital, analogue modulation and transmission techniques. (C4,PLO1)
2. Construct transmission of data, voice, noise effect and media technique in communication system. (P4, PLO2)
3. Perform voice and data communication activities.. (A2, PLO5)

1.1.1 Describe components in communication system element

communication system.
1.2 Perform transmission techniques for communication system.
1.2.1 Identify types of transmission techniques according to International
Telecommunications Union (ITU-T).
1.2.2 Demonstrate analogue and digital signal by using electronic
equipment.
1.3 Demonstrate the frequency spectrum for communication system.
1.3.1 Explain electromagnetic frequency spectrum according to
Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
1.3.2 Identify the frequency allocation according to MCMC.
1.3.3 Calculate bandwidth by using bandwidth formula.
1.3.4 Perform frequency spectrum for several broadcasting stations
according to MCMC.
1.4 Perform experiment of noise effect in communication system.
1.4.1 Explain the nature and sources of noise in communication system.
1.4.2 Identify the effect of noise on communication system.
1.4.3 Demonstrate the effect of noise on communication system.

2.1 Perform the principles of Amplitude Modulation (AM).
2.1.1 Define information, carrier and modulation signal according to ITU-
T.
2.1.2 Identify amplitude modulation mathematical expression.
2.1.3 Calculate modulation index by using modulation index formula.
2.1.4 Calculate percentage of modulation by using percentage of
modulation formula.
2.1.5 Identify amplitude demodulation according to analogue modulation
technique.
2.1.6 Check information, carrier and modulation waveform by using
telecommunication trainer.
2.2 Perform the principles of angle modulation techniques.
2.2.1 Identify types of angle modulation techniques according to
analogue modulation technique.
2.2.2 Identify frequency modulation according to analogue modulation
technique.
2.2.3 Perform modulating, carrier and modulation signal of frequency
modulation by using an illustration.
2.3 Identify application of modulation.
2.3.1 Identify phase modulation according to analogue modulation
technique.
2.3.2 Define modulating, carrier and modulation signal of phase
modulation by using an illustration.
2.3.3 Identify angle demodulation techniques according to analogue
modulation technique.

3.3.4 Perform experiment application of multiplexing by using
telecommunication lab equipment.

KEHADIRAN/PERATURAN SEMASA KULIAH ( LECTURE ATTENDANCE / REGULATION ):

1. Pelajar mesti hadir tidak kurang dari 80% masa pertemuan yang ditentukan bagi sesuatu kursus.
Students must attend lectures not less than 80% of the contact hours for every course .

2. Pelajar yang tidak memenuhi perkara (1) di atas tidak dibenarkan menduduki sebarang bentuk penilaian selanjutnya. Markah
sifar (0) akan diberikan kepada pelajar yang gagal memenuhi perkara (1).
Students who do not fulfill (1) will not be allowed to sit for any further examination. Zero mark (0) will be given to students who
fail to comply with (1).

3. Pelajar perlu mengikut dan patuh kepada peraturan berpakaian yang berkuatkuasa dan menjaga disiplin diri masing-masing
untuk mengelakkan dari tindakan tatatertib diambil terhadap pelajar.
Students must obey all rules and regulations and must discipline themselves in order to avoid any disciplinary actions against
them.

4. Pelajar perlu mematuhi peraturan keselamatan semasa proses pembelajaran dan pengajaran.
