I have completed more than half the courses in that series and very close to
finishing all. I paid for only 4 of them (Transact-SQL, Power BI course, Applied
Machine Learning and Programming with Python for Data Science, I think
they’re the best ones). It’s still a very iffy decision whether to purchase
everything and get the “Professional Certificate” by Microsoft. Frankly, my
honest feeling is that the courses are too basic to be considered serious
certifications. There are multiple reasons:

1. In most of the courses, they spoon feed too much. For instance, they
provide code samples, step-by-step guides. You only need to follow the
steps, watch the lectures, you’ll get all the answers easily.

2. Courses are currently too short. While each course spans 4 - 6 weeks,
the real commitment is not much. In my opinion, only 4 courses that I
paid above are worth more than the price tags. The rest of the courses
are pretty easy in a sense that each week only contains a very simple
tutorial with a few questions to check your knowledge. There are
nothing challenging.

3. The courses are heavy towards introducing Microsoft data analytics

stacks (Azure and Cortana to be specific). While they did attempt to
teach theories, the theories are too light, both in contents and
assessments. For the practical parts, they’re quite abundant and well-
made, but the difficulty is not sufficient to offer any real challenge.
Without challenges, it’s hard to validate that you’re actually good with
the knowledge.

My take is to just complete the entire series for free, sitting still with my 4
certificates in those courses, wait for the series to improve, then reconsider.

P/S: for 500USD, the certificate is a good bargain in terms of brand name.

The Microsoft's Data Science Course is one of the best guiding paths to this
field because of its rich content. Though it is mostly the basics of this field. It
will clarify and introduce you to the required data science tools and
programming languages but won't makes you a complete expert. Therefore, you
should not go for paying for the courses rather take them for free to acquire the
knowledge.

They provide code samples, step-by-step guide to each and everything.

You just have to follow the videos and watch them carefully and you
will be able to do the exercises easily. The courses are not too long and
you just have to spend at least a month and a half to complete the
courses if you show real dedication.

The best part is that the courses are self-paced so you can plan your
schedule and study accordingly. The course material is pretty good
and rich in content. Fundamentals are always required as the
foundation to every field be it be on any topic or content without
understanding the basics, no one can proceed to the expert level.

Microsoft's courses focus on teaching the fundamental concepts in a

clear and precise manner in order to clarify all doubts and make
students learn efficiently with the help of video lectures and
assignments.

You should consider Microsoft's program if you want your basics to

be cleared and then continue with the specialization in the courses.
They are completely worth it if you dedicate your time efficiently.

They teach you what is necessary for developing your skills in data science.

They have robust database system called SQL Server, and are building entire
analytics eco system around it.

Recently Microsoft has acquired R, which is famous statistical language used by

almost 80% of the data scientists.
