BACKGROUND

The UNICEF New Talent Unit is seeking support by a professional consultant or a team of professional

two main career development programmes: the New and Emerging Talent Initiative (NETI) and Junior
Professional Officer (JPO) Programme.

For further information please refer to:

 New and Emerging Talent Initiative (NETI): http://www.unicef.org/about/employ/index_74609.html

 Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme: http://www.unicef.org/about/employ/index_jpp.html

Both programmes are an entry point for dynamic professionals interested in an international career with
UNICEF. Over a two year period participants work actively in a multicultural environment within the
development and humanitarian arenas, while contributing to delivering results for children over a two year
period. They are assigned in country and regional offices as well as Headquarter locations in UNICEFs
various functional areas. During their assignment, they undergo an orientation programme in New York
Headquarters as well as receive Coaching and Mentoring sessions.

Neither of the two programmes has any expectancy of a secure position with UNICEF at the end of the two
or three year assignment. However, the New Talent unit has set as objective to improve the retention rate
of both programmes and developed a new retention strategy which starts at the 15 months into the
assignment, when participants are allowed to apply for UNICEF positions.
