Objectives/Scope:
The drilling and hydraulic parameters have optimized to improve drilling performance in the production section of
highly deviated Mishrif wells in southern Iraq fields. The engineering guideline has established to mitigate not only
the drilling problems but also reduce the drilling time and cost. The appropriate hydraulic designs have proposed
to ensure optimum hole cleaning with respect to optimize drilling rates.

Methods, Procedures, Process:

Numerous offset wells data have analyzed to enhance the rate of penetration (ROP) in the upcoming wells relied
upon the statistical, and the inverse ROP approaches. The Weight On Bit (WOB), Revolution Per Minute (RPM),
Mud Weight (MWT), Flow Rate (FL), and Total Flow Area (TFA) are among the investigated drilling variables.
These parameters were fed to commercial statistical software, and based on the least square estimation method;
the regression coefficients were solved to obtain the empirical model to predict ROP. In addition, the screening
and sensitivity analysis methods were performed to the input data to ensure model confidentiality. Furthermore,
the inverse ROP approach has implemented to increase the drilling performance by using commercial drilling
optimizer that has provided by the following data: bit designs, lithology descriptions, and drilling variables. Then,
the optimum ROP has obtained by changing critical parameters that have a significant impact on the drilling rate.
The hydraulic parameters have been adequately selected to ensure adequate hole cleaning for the optimized
ROP based on a numerical model.

Results, Observations, Conclusions:

The optimization techniques lead to an impressive increase in the rate of penetration in the production section of
the Mishrif reservoir. It can be observed that some variables such weight on bit, hydraulic horsepower per square
inch, flow rate, and revolution per minute are the most significant factors in increasing the rate of penetration.
Thus, these crucial operating parameters have meticulously selected meter per meter to enhance the ROP
throughout 8.5 inches hole of Mishrif wells. The statistical model offers precise perdition to the ROP rely upon the
regressed operation parameters. The inverse ROP mothed result in considerable reduction in bit rotating time and
drilling cost. The optimum hydraulic parameters have introduced in order to provide appropriate lifting capacity
with respect to the optimized ROP and well inclination. By using the optimized drilling variables, the low ROP
related drilling problems have mitigated significantly.

Novel/Additive Information:
This paper ponders comprehensive guide to enhance drilling performance in southern Iraq field. Therefore, it can be
considered as a valuable guideline to drill a well in southern Iraq region efficiently and cost-effectively.
