1. INTRODUCTION
This document corresponds to the calculation memory sizing mills that are part
of the ore comminution circuit having a rated capacity of 2000 TPD, which
feeds the flotation circuit Pb-Cu-Zn. It will be established a circuit suitable for
grinding mineral that is on par with the metallurgical mining industry in order
to gauge the mills.

When preparing the document, the calculation data as various sizes of products
and circulating load is assumed.

2. REFERENCE

data indicated are used.

3. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCESS

The product of crushing circuit feeds the primary ball mill with 8461 tons per
hour in open circuit, this product is sent to a cyclone where the underflow feeds
a secondary ball mill, while the overflow is the final product of milling circuit
and is directed to the flotation circuit.

Sizing primary and secondary ball mills is based on the Bond method and
parameter values that were considered in the calculation are part of a
previously conducted benchmarking and experience designer.
4. CONCLUSIONS
1. The grinding circuit was established as seen in figure 1:
2. A primary ball mill 9 x 13 that needs a power of 704 HP to cope with

Figure 1. Grinding circuit diagram.

solids flow of 8461 ton / h was sized.
3. A secondary ball mill 10 x 14 that needs a power of 876 HP to cope with
solids flow of 211.53 ton / h according to the mass balance made was
sized.

GRINDING
5.1. General design criteria
This chapter describes the basis for calculating the dimensioning of the primary

5.2. Calculation basis

The bases used for calculating size and power consumption of the primary and
secondary mills were elaborated by using the Bond method (Quiroz, I. (1986).
Operaciones unitarias en procesamiento de minerales.)

1 1
W =10∗Wi( − )
√ P 80 √ F 80

This equation needs some correction factors:

EF1: Correction factor for dry grinding bars and balls.

EF2: Correction factor for open circuit ball mill.

EF3: Correction factor diameter rods and balls.

EF4: Factor by feeding oversized bars and balls (F80> fo)

EF5: Fineness factor for ball mills (less than 74um).

EF6: Factor reduction rate rod mill (Rro > Rr).

Which they were taken for primary milling:
