user about potential danger of injury.
Failure to comply with the warning could result in injury to the user.

hss
! Important!
This symbol calls attention to a situation that could result in incorrect
measurements, disruptions in the measurement process, collisions or
damage to the equipment and the workpiece.

CALYPSO can import CAD geometry data, measurement plans and
measuring results generated in AIMS and use them to create CAD
models and measurement plans.
The AIMS import is an option of CALYPSO. You can license this func-
tionality and have it enabled in your system if it is of use to you. Con-
tact your ZEISS Service for more information.
The sections included in this chapter explain the basics of importing
AIMS data and step you through the procedures involved.

This chapter contains:

AIMS interface

Basics about AIMS data

With CALYPSO and the AIMS program package you can import edi-
ted geometry data and measurement plans and use them in
CALYPSO.

What is AIMS?
AIMS stands for Advanced Integrated Mathematical System. AIMS is
a program package providing for the common use of CAD geometry
data, measurement plans and measuring results by different software
and hardware platforms.

AIMS import to CALYPSO

To enable CALYPSO to use measurement plans created in AIMS, the
data generated in AIMS is imported in CALYPSO as tdf files. During
the import, a CAD model is generated and a measurement plan is cre-
ated on the basis of the tdf file.

Export of results to AIMS

The results of measurement plans imported from AIMS can be expor-
ted again to AIMS. This has to be set in the Results to File window
and in the Start Measurement window before starting the CNC run
of the measurement plan imported from AIMS.

Importing AIMS data

Importing AIMS data

Ypi can import AIMS data via the AIMS interface and convert it into a
measurement plan.
1 In order to import AIMS data into CALYPSO, select CAD → CAD
File → AIMS Import.
The Generate Measurement Plan with AIMS Data window is
displayed.

2 On the Generate index card, click the Load data button.

The Find folder dialog box appears.
3 Select the desired AIMS file (file name ending “.tdf”).
The AIMS measurement plan name is displayed.

NOTE A list generated by AIMS is processed during the import. The last item
hss
of this list usually is the transfer of pure geometry data. As CALYPSO
has already extracted this data from the other data and constructed
the CAD model, the Skip last operation check box is ticked by
default. This will save you transfer time.

AIMS interface

4 If the last item of the transfer list contains relevant information for
CALYPSO, deactivate the Skip last operation check box.

! Important
During import to CALYPSO, the AIMS measurement plans are provi-
ded with strategies and technologies from CALYPSO. The AIMS tech-
nologies cannot be transferred to CALYPSO .

5 On the Strategy defaults index card, activate the check boxes of

those feature types for which you want to define a default strategy
and click the associated Settings button.
6 In the Strategy dialog box that opens, define the default measure-
ment strategy according to which the features of the correspon-
ding type are to be measured.

NOTE By selecting the strategy, you define at the same time the CALYPSO
hss
Strategy defaults applying to all measurement plans. For all non-acti-
vated feature types, the existing CALYPSO strategy defaults will be
used.

7 Click Generate Measurement Plan.

The import starts running; you can follow its progress and the cre-
ation of the CALYPSO measurement plan. A message confirming
the end of the import appears.
8 After a successful import, click Close.
The measurement plan you have just imported is open.
9 Select File → Save to save the measurement plan.

Export of results to AIMS

Export of results to AIMS

CALYPSO exports the results of a measurement plan imported from
AIMS directly back to the AIMS data path and into the corresponding
tdf file.
A prerequisite for the export is that the output to AIMS has been con-
figured and the INI file for printout header data has been edited
accordingly.

NOTE This is important, as CALYPSO links the results to the name of the
hss
workpiece and AIMS would refuse to overwrite an already existing file
when a new measurement is performed.

To export to AIMS the results of a measurement plan imported from

AIMS that have been determined with CALYPSO, you have to activate
output of the results in AIMS format in the Start Measurement win-
dow and run the measurement plan.

Configuring output to AIMS

To configure the output to AIMS:
1 Select Resources → Results to File.
The Results to File dialog box appears on the screen:
2 Tick the AIMS check to enable output of the data in AIMS format
and confirm with OK.
3 Edit the userfields.ini file for printout header data.
The existence of a “pieceName” variable is important. CALYPSO
will output the results under this name. A repeated output to AIMS
is not possible if results have already been output once under this
name to AIMS.
Below you will find an example of an INI file for printout header data.

Export of results to AIMS

Exporting results to AIMS

To output in AIMS format the measuring results determined in
CALYPSO:
1 Select Plan → CNC-Start to open the Start Measurement win-
dow.
2 Under Results to File, tick the AIMS check box.
3 Click the Printout header data button.
4 Enter a new name for pieceName in the Input Parameter win-
dow.

NOTE For each export, enter a new name for pieceName. Otherwise it will
hss
not be possible to export the data to AIMS.

5 Confirm the modifications in the Input Parameter window with

OK.
6 Click OK in the Start Measurement window to start the measu-
ring run and to export the results to AIMS.
