MATERIAL
MAINTENANCE
VACUUMING TIPS
Vacuum with slow, deliberate passes in length and width
for maximum effectiveness.
Heavy traffic areas require multiple passes back and
forth to sufficiently extract embedded soil.
A vacuum with a brush roller will provide agitation to
help with soil removal.
Slow movement allows time for air to circulate through https://www.mohawkgroup.com/carpet/more/perfo
the face yarn and extract soil. rmance-and-technical?tab=tab4#tab4

Rubber floor
1. Sweep or vacuum daily to remove dust and dirt. If necessary, clean with a
wet mop, using a regular neutral cleaner/degreaser. 2. For heavily soiled floors,
clean with a 175 – 350 rpm rotary swing machine with a clean red pad or clean
soft nylon brushes and low foam neutral cleaner for auto scrubber (Diversey
Prominence Floor Cleaner). Ensure that the soiled solution is picked up by wet
vacuuming or by the automatic scrubber. 3. Allow the floor to dry completely.
4. Floor finish options: gloss can be restored by: a. Dry polishing with a low rpm
machine (175 – 350 rpm) using a white pad or b. Spray buffing for smooth floors
with a low rpm machine (175 – 350 rpm) using a white pad or c. Mopping with
an acrylic floor Sealer/Finish (Diversey Carefree or Carefree Matte). 5. Periodic
cleaning: If the floor must be thoroughly cleaned, follow the recommendations
given under the Initial Maintenance section.

Luxury Vinyl Tile and other hard surface

1. Sweep, dust mop or vacuum the floor thoroughly to remove all loose dust,
dirt, grit and debris. Note: Vacuum beater bar must be disengaged. 2. Damp
mop the floor with a pH-neutral cleaner. 3. If necessary, scrub the floor using a
rotary machine or auto scrubber with a soft to medium scrubbing brush
(aggressiveness equivalent to a 3M red pad). 4. Thoroughly rinse the entire floor
with fresh, clean water. Remove rinse water and allow the floor to dry
MATERIAL
MAINTENANCE
The glass surface of LightPlane Panels can be maintained using standard
commercial,
non-streaking cleaners and polishes formulated for use on glass.
• When cleaning the panels, avoid excessive amounts of liquid solution on the
glass, as
this can damage the lamps and electrical wiring in the panels.
• Aluminum frames can be cleaned as needed using a soft brush or cloth with
a minimal
amount of warm water and a mild detergent. Do not use harsh abrasives,
acids or
chlorine-based cleaners or cleaning tools containing carbon steel, such as
Veneer surfaces can be maintained using standard commercial cleaners and

or wire brushes.
• Do not let

surfaces on or
benear the panels
maintained forstandard
using an extended period ofnon-
commercial, time.
Avoid
streaking cleaners and polishes formulated for use on glass
puddling near the base of the panels.
Bonded Metal & Bonded Quartz require very little maintenance. Routine dust
should be removed by periodic vacuuming or with a soft brush. Fingerprints,
smudges and more persistent dirt can be removed by using an ammonia-free
cleaner/degreaser such as Simple Green.
MATERIAL SELECTION
 For the wall paint, Black was selected to minimize the marks on the walls while allowing people
to focus on the lime green and the natural and energizing environment that this color creates,
gray was selected as a neutral color to complement the black and over using this, it also
functions as a tranquility color for relaxation when utilized on the lounge and social area walls.
Black and Green paints are from Benjamin Moore Ultra Spec SCUFF-X® since this is resistant to
scuffing in high traffic areas and it also contains low VOC and odor , qualifies for LEED® v4 credit
and CHPS low emitting credit and contains anti-microbial additives that inhibit the growth of
mold and mildew on the surface of the paint film, this being extremely important for this type of
building. As for the gray color, Benjamin Moore Aura paint was selected because its excellent
sustainable components , same for the wall coverings, they are sustainable, count with LEED
points and comply with fire regulations. The counter finish is quartz material with a crinkle black
finish which will create contrast with the shimmering black wall covering.
 For the reception, tile and slip retardant flooring was selected. The slip retardant will be used
from the doors to the counter and the tile would be use on the rest of the floor. The juice bar
carpet will be tile carpet to create a warm environment and this carpet is also the
recommended one for this type of room since is easy to change in case of stains or damage.
 For the lounge area also tile carpet was selected for the same reason, is a high traffic area
which connects multiple rooms and tile carpet is easy to replace.
 The exercise room will use rubber flooring, this is practical for these type of room because of its
resistant, non slip and acoustic properties.
 The juice bar wall will be a mix of wall covering with light panels to bring more lamination to the
end wall and make this a focus point to attract the clientele. The counter surface selected is
wood veneer , accentuating the nature and warm colors and representing the healthy style.

Part II: Reflecting

During this course I learned many interesting and useful resources that will help me on my

studies in Interior Design. One of those concepts learned would be the amount of material that is

in the market for the diversity of people functions, such as acoustic walls and under laying for

the floor. When completing one of the assignments and requesting a sample from the

manufacturer, they included a sample of acoustic underlayment and the difference was very

noticeable as the quality of the product from what I usually find in the stores.

Another resource was to learn how to interview the company and how many resources can be

acquire from a simple call. The sales department in the places I called are very dedicated and

willing to answer all the questions and work together with the designer, collaborating with your

ideas and helping to find a solution for my vision of the design.

I also learned the difference between the residential and commercial design and I have to admit it

is significantly big. The materials created for the residential design are very different and less

tested than the commercial and the specifications are almost nonexistent on the residential

design, unless you are working with ADA of similar circumstances.

The idea of creating a space, researching materials and give it my personal style was a great tool

to notice the potential I can have and motivate me to continue with developing my skills in this

path.
