SPEECH: GLOBAL WARMING

Assalamu'alaiakum wr. wb, Good Morning and best wishes for us.

First of all, let us pray praise the presence of ALLAH SWT who has given his
blessings so that we can gather in this room in a healthy condition. Second, may peace
and salutation always be given to our prophet MUHAMMAD SAW, who has brought us
from the darkness era to the brightness. On this happy occasion, I would like to thank
you for the opportunity that has been given to me to deliver a speech titled “Global
Warming”.

As we know, currently our earth has become very hot because of global
warming. We all have been familiar with the global warming words around us. There
are so many warnings or invitations to prevent global warming occurs either through
print or electronic media. However, all those efforts will be in vain if there is no
consciousness of us to act.

Global Warming is a process where the earth’s surface average temperature is

rising. Nowadays, global Warming is happening due to several factors such as the
greenhouse effect and the feedback effect. The first is the greenhouse effect.
Greenhouse effect occurs because of the heat energy generated by the sun to the earth
trapped in the earth by the accumulated amount of greenhouse gasses including water
vapor, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and methane. These gasses absorb and reflect
heat wave radiation generated by Earth and consequently the heat will be stored in the
earth. This situation will occur continuously and makes average temperature of the
earth continues to increase.

The second cause is the feedback effect. The feedback effect is a factor that is
produced by the earth itself for example the increasing of CO2 in the Earth’s
atmosphere. Other feedback is a decreased ability of Ice to reflect the heat. When the
Earth’s temperature rises, polar ice is melting so that land or water below will be
opened. While both land and sea have the low ability to reflect the light when
compared with ice, and consequently it will absorb more solar radiation.

Once we know the causes and impact of Global Warming. Let us prevent it all.
Maybe we cannot stop it as a whole, but we can slow down the global warming effect.
The efforts which we can do are: the first is to reduce the use of carbon dioxide by
decreasing smoke from motorcycle and fabric to the atmosphere. The second is by
planting a lot of trees (or as we known as reforestation) because trees absorb carbon
dioxide and break it through the process of photosynthesis by producing oxygen. The
third is to reduce the use of fossil fuels, and the last is to reduce the use of electronic
goods that produce CFCs (Chloro Fluoro Carbons) such as air conditioners and
refrigerators because these gases increase the depletion of ozone.

Let us maintain the viability of our planet. By keeping our earth, it will also keep
us alive. I think that’s enough from me. I apologize if I made a mistake or offend
someone in this speech. Thank you for your attention.
