In May Mike and I attended the National Conference in Auckland along with 5 other members of Waikato CF . As Co
Chairs it is a fantastic opportunity for us to network with other Chairpersons to share fundraising ideas etc. There were
some excellent speakers including Paul Hoffman talking on CF related diabetes. The panel of experts on Physio and
diet was an interactive session that allowed the audience to ask questions of experts in the field; this session was very
informative as often other people ask questions that you have been wondering about.
The transplant panel was especially interesting, as it included a mother of a transplant recipient, Dr Mark O’Carroll who
performs the transplants, Iris who is the psychologist for transplant recipients and 2 transplant recipients, one of whom
– Troy Stapleton – has had two lung transplants. It was a very in-depth, informative discussion.
Thank you very much Te Aroha Lions for your generous contribution to purchase two portable nebulisers for our
Waikato families. Debbie and Briar thoroughly enjoyed coming to speak the club to raise awareness for Cystic
Fibrosis. We really appreciate all the work that goes into raising funds in order to support our CF Waikato
families. You rock!
Debbie and Briar receive the $800 cheque from Peter Jager, President of Te Aroha Lions.

* Thanks: Good morning, and thank you all for the part you played in making the CFNZ conference a success. For those
of you who attended – I hope you found it informative and interesting.
* Staff movements: Natasha Banks-Fowler will be the Executive Assistant to CFNZ Board Chair and CFNZ Chief
Executive, CFNZ Board Secretary and she will manage PORT CF administration.
*Grants and Events: The CFNZ Board has agreed to engage a fundraising expert to develop a fundraising strategy for
the organisation – this will inform the type of fundraising we should do and who we need to employ. We do however
know that grants are vital for our survival and I am looking to fill a part time grants coordinator position as soon as I
can. I am also looking to employ someone on a fixed term contract to manage the events we have lined up for the rest
of the year while the fundraising strategy is being developed
.*Field worker: We were pleased to be able to introduce you to Jude Kelly, Central Field Worker, at conference. Jude
will be introducing herself to her branches and meeting clinical staff and clients over the next few weeks. She replaces
Melinda Coombes, our Northern Field Worker . We wish her well.
Kind regards,
Jane Bollard
Chief Executive
Hi Everyone, * Just a reminder to make sure everyone gets a influenza vaccination – free at the GP for all people who
have CF. Well worth it for family members too!

Add 1 & 1/8 cup warm water and mix in with a butter knife. Pour 1/4 cup olive oil over the top, don't
mix it in. Set in a warm place to double in size, about 2 hours.
Mix in as much of the oil as possible with a clean hand. Take dough out and put in a roasting tray.
Reserve oil left in the bowl. Press out lightly and leave for 10 min to relax. Press out more and leave
for 1/2 hour. Preheat oven to about 190. Dimple surface of dough with your fingers. Pour over
reserved oil and sprinkle well with sea salt flakes. Bake until looks nice and brown.
You can double the quantities for a larger loaf. The recipe above is for 2 people with some left over.
ENJOY!
