SMW Method and SEMW Soil Mixing Equipments

-Episode One-

SMW method was innovated in Japan in 1970s and transmitted in Europe and US
gradually. From 1990s, it is brought to China and until now, it has become the most
popular and safety method to form retaining wall in the field of building basement,
subways, hydro projects at East Asia regional market, composed of Japan, Korea and
China.

SMW is the short term for Soil Mixing Wall, the method so-called Colonnade Style Soil
Cementation Wall, which is a soil consolidation method used by multiple shaft earth auger
as following process:

a) Trench by excavator with 2-3m.

b) Drill into the requested depth.
c) Inject the cement slurry as per the soil condition and mixing with original underground
soil, while lifting the Earth Auger.
d) Form one section of the wall of soil and cement mixed.
e) Finish another new section of wall nearby as the same way in the same line.
f) Return and form the wall between the previous two sections with overlap
g) According to the job request to insert the H beam or other shape of sheet pile for stress
reinforcement structure.
h) After the solidified, it forms a stressed, retaining, underground wall for containment or
water resistance purpose.

SMW Method Principle

The SMW method features as a) Good water resistance ability b) Depth for drilling c)
Excellent Soil resistance function d) Low cost of job e) Environment friendly, no vibration
and low noise compared with Sheet vibro piling for retaining. Hence, the method is widely
applied in a) Containment and retaining wall for deep basement excavation; b) Water
resistance / Retaining Wall for canal and hydro project; c) Wall resistance under the dam;
d) Protection from collapse Underground pipe or tunnel.
