and speaker, as well as
prepare you for your high
school career.

Course Structure:
This course is a traditional
setting, in classroom
instruction. We will go 180
days in a block schedule. We
will also be utilizing many
technological aspects both in
class and for homework.
General Course Objectives:
By the end of the year students
will…
1. Engage in daily, meaningful
reading, writing, listening, and
speaking tasks in class and/or
at home
2. Comprehend, interpret,
evaluate, and analyze a variety
of different texts from fiction
to nonfiction to make
inferences and compare and
contrast
3. Respond to and create
arguments using specific
details from a given text while
editing their work to adhere to
standard conventions of
grammar and usage
4. Work within group and
individual settings using
appropriate consideration of
audience, purpose, and
information to be conveyed
using their listening and
speaking skills
5. Access and use information
pertaining to a research
question while creating and
defending a thesis
Class Binder:
Your binder will be organized
according to the AVID method
and you will have a tab for each
of your classes, in my specific
course you will need additional
tabs or flags:
o Handouts/Syllabus

o Reading Study Guides

o Drafts of writing
o Passed back

How to Get Help:
1. During Class: Ask for help
when you do not understand
by raising hand or asking a
partner (Don’t be afraid to ask
as other students might have
the same question)
2. During Lunch: In class let
me know that you would like
to come at lunch time to
review
3. After School: I will remain
after school until 5pm except
during volleyball season
Revision Policy:
You will receive a “REDO”
card at the beginning of the
semester that you will keep in
your binder. If you wish to you
will only get 1 chance to raise
your grade on a piece of
writing. Test scores under
69% will be considered for a
retake. Daily assignments
cannot be done over

or copy work- Receive a 0
6. Use polite and
appropriate language
7. Utilize technology in an
appropriate manner related
to class

Absence Policy
If you miss a day of class for
any reason, take the following
steps:
o Check the absent folder
for any hard copies that
you missed
o Ask me for instructions
and will be happy to catch
you up on any missed work
during lunch or at the end
of class
o Turn in any assignments,
essays, or major projects
that were due on the day(s)
you were absent
o Be prepared to take any
quizzes ASAP upon your
return
o You will have 3 days per
every day you were absent,
after that the late policy
kicks in
Email Policy
When emailing me, I request
that you are respectful and use
appropriate grammar (not text
lingo) and include a subject in
the subject line you’re your
entire message), a salutation
or greeting, the reason you are
writing, and a closing. Emails
received after 8pm will not be
answered until the next
morning.

Late Work
Assignments can be turned in
late for 10% off the overall
grade, after 4 days the
assignment can no longer be
turned in.
Assignments turned in late in
the semester can only be made
up for half credit, which is a 50%
(this is at the teacher’s
discretion)
