Bayt (P.B.U.T.). In order to materialize one of the paramount
aims of this university, that is to raise religious propagators
for expanding the Islamic culture beyond the boundaries,
non-Iranian students are also receiving education in this
university. Its method is to combine Islamic seminary and
university educational system and it awards certificate for
various degrees of education including BA, MA and PhD.

ance of Āstān Quds Raḍawī’s Custodian the 400 year-old
seminary buildings of Kheyrātkhān and Mīrzā Jaʿfar, that
were the place for offering theological courses, were merged

Foundation

deemed as an achievement
of Islamic Revolution. Its
construction came to an
end in 1422 A.H. Gaining
benefit from the endeavors
of 16 research departments

this foundation carries out
projects in 14 different fields
such as, Qur’an, tradition,
translation of texts into
many different languages,
philosophy and theology,
history of Islam, geography of
Islamic countries, literature
of children and youth, etc.
During 22 years of devoted
activity, this center has
published 1709 volumes of
books in different subjects.1

of a blessing of Allah that one

Consequence of Sins
and Misdeeds
Some of the afflictions that
befall us are a consequence
of our sins and misdeeds.
These afflictions constitute a
Divine Chastisement. There
are two general
 types of Divine Chastisement: Worldly and
otherworldly. Some sins and misdeeds may
incur both types of chastisement, some
just one. There are sins whose punishment
Allah reserves entirely for the Hereafter.
The Qur’an asserts that Allah helps in in-
creasing the sins of those who oppose and
resist Islam despite acknowledging its truth
by giving them longevity and worldly pros-
perity. In this way their sins mount in this
world and so Allah inflicts upon them and
exponentially more severe punishment in
the Hereafter. The minor sins, however, are
more liable to incur worldly punishment as
opposed to otherworldly punishment. Thus
Allah afflicts the faithful with hardships
so that they may realize the wrong they
have done and in this way they may make
up for their sins and thus be absolved of
otherworldly punishments. For, the severity
and intensity of otherworldly sufferings is
incomparably greater than worldly pun-
ishments. The natural conclusion of this
point is that the hardships that the believers
endure may seem to be bad but they are
in truth a form of Divine Mercy whereby
Allah absolves the believers from having to
undergo punishment in Hell. This allevia-
tion in punishment is granted only to sinful
believers. The pains and afflictions that dis-
believers experience in this world in no way
mitigates their otherworldly chastisement; a
much more severe and painful chastisement
awaits them in the Hereafter.1

GREATER SINS:
DISOBEDIENCE TO PARENTS
One of the greater sins is to be
disobedient to one’s parents
as expressly mentioned in
the traditions from the holy
Prophet (P.B.U.H. & H.H.) and
the infallible Imams (P.B.U.T.).
For instance, in a tradition,
in response to the number
of great sins, Imam Riḍā
(P.B.U.H.) stated, “The greater
sins are those, the performers
of which have been promised
(Hell) fire.” Then he
mentioned, “Disobedience to
parents” as one of them.1

What is Disobedience
to Parents?
Disobedience to parents
means that the son or the
daughter causes disrespect to
parents by speech or actions
or they do not obey them in
matters which are within
reason and matters which
are not in any way against
religion.2
Benevolence to Par-
ents is Wājib
The verses of the Qur’an

that benevolence toward
parents is wājib. Here is
one verse of the Qur’an and
its interpretation by Imam
Ṣādiq (P.B.U.H.),
“Your Lord has decreed
that you shall not worship
anyone except Him, and [He
has enjoined] kindness to
parents. Should any of them
or both reach old age at your
side, do not say to them, ‘Fie!’
And do not chide them, but
speak to them noble words.
 Lower the wing of humility
to them, mercifully…”
(17:23-24)
Imam Ṣādiq (P.B.U.H.) in-
terpreted these verses as
follows,
“‘Kindness to parents’
means, ‘Be good to your
parents and if they are in
need of something, procure
it for them before they ask
for it.’
‘Speak to them noble words’
means, ‘If the parents beat
you, say, “May Allah forgive
you”’.
‘Lower the wing of humility
to them, mercifully’ means,
‘Do not look at them with
distaste. Do not raise your
voice above theirs. When
you walk with them do not
precede them. When you
go to a gathering, do not sit
before they do. Never keep

your hand above theirs.’”3
Consequences of
Displeasing Parents
Several consequences
have been mentioned for
displeasing the parents in
traditions, some of which
are to happen in this world
and some in the Hereafter.
The Prophet (P.B.U.H. & H.H.)
counted those who disobey
their parents as the ones
who “Allah will not speak
to them on the Day of
Resurrection. Neither will
He have mercy upon them,
nor will He purify their
sins and there is for them a
horrible chastisement.”4
The holy Prophet (P.B.U.H.
& H.H.) said, “One who has
disobeyed his parents,

whatever (good) deeds he
does, he will never inter the
Heaven.”5
He also has said, “There
are three kinds of sins
which are punished in this
world, rather than being
given respite till the Day
of Resurrection. The first
is disobedience to parents.
The second is injustice
upon men and third is
thanklessness for favor.”6
Imam Hādī (P.B.U.H.)
said, “The displeasing of
parents causes decrease in
sustenance and degradation
(also follows).”7,8

O Allah! I showed sincerity by cutting myself ،‫ َو أ� ْق َبلْ ُت ِب ُ ِكّي عَلَ ْي َك‬،‫اللَّهُ َّم � ِ ّن أ� ْخلَ ْص ُت ِبنْ ِق َطا ِعي �ل َ ْي َك‬
off from everything but Thee, I approached

Thee with my whole self,
I averted my face from everyone who needs ‫ َو قَلَ ْب ُت َم ْس�أل َ ِت َ َّع ْن‬، َ‫صفْ ُت َو ْ ِج�ي َ َّع ْن َ ْي َت ُاج � َل ِرفْ ِدك‬ َ َ ‫َو‬
Thy Support, I ceased to ask from any who ‫إ‬
،‫ل‬ َ ِ ْ‫لَ ْم يَ� ْس َتغ ِْن َع ْن فَض‬
cannot do without Thy Bounty,
I saw that the needy who seeks from the needy ‫َو َر أ�يْ ُت أ� َّن َطلَ َب الْ ُم ْح َتاجِ � َل الْ ُم ْح َتاجِ َس َف ٌه ِم ْن َر أ� ِي ِه َو ضَ َّ ٌل‬
is foolish in his opinion and misguided in his ‫إ‬
