COMMITTEE REPORTS

Political Division: CANDIDATE RECRUITMENT REPORT – Submitted by Jake Leonard

While there is a lull in recruitment activity, Jasen and I are focusing our attention on the April 2019
consolidated elections as petitioning season is fast approaching in late September/early October with
filing deadlines in December.

LIBERTARIAN PARTY
OF ILLINOIS

At this time, Candidate Recruitment only knows of a mayoral candidate in the City of Peoria, in which
there has been zero return response by the candidate via email and phone and the lead was also passed
on to the Libertarian Party of Greater Peoria. No communication has been received from LPGP regarding
any communications with the candidate.

I’m not certain currently whether any of our elected Libertarians in nonpartisan positions are up for or
are seeking re-election bids, but if you are, please reach out to Jasen or myself as soon as possible.

Should the referendum to dissolve the Collinsville Area Recreation District fail this fall (which may be
highly unlikely), we need more Libertarians running for seats on the board to push an even more
convincing argument for dissolution of this governing body.

No matter whether it’s at the local, municipal or township levels…no matter whether it’s the library,
park, recreation or school board, let’s expand on our twelve currently-elected Libertarians, which
include five newly-elected officials in 2017, which includes Candidate Recruitment Director Jasen
Howard, who was elected village trustee of New Lenox.

Fox Valley Libertarian Party SOC Report

By Julie Fox, Chair

July 17, 2018

Matt Burns and Russ Clark joined FVLP members Dave Kaufman, Don Henry, Chris Henry, and me for
petitioning on June 23rd and 24th at Swedish Days Festival and Parade in Geneva. Bill Redpath also
joined us on the 23rd. Bill Redpath’s 935 signatures brought FVLP into fifth place in the chapter petition
challenge. Without Bill’s signatures FVLP would have been in sixth place. Thank you to Bill Redpath,
Kevin Sweeney, Amanda Parsons, Don Henry, Chris Henry, and Dave Kaufman for contributing to FVLP’s
petitioning numbers.

FVLP held its regular monthly meeting on Wed., June 27th. Kate Nadolski was our guest speaker,
educating us on FOIAs and other document requests. 18 people attended.

FVLP participated in its 11th year in the July 4th Elgin Independence Day Parade. Kash Jackson, Steve
Dutner, and Claire Ball joined us. Thirteen members joined us as we supported our candidates this year.

Our monthly planning meeting was held on Wed., July 11th. The focus was on planning for our booth at
the McHenry County Fair, Wednesday, August 1st through Sunday, August 5th. Our theme will be “Don’t
change your zip code, change your vote!”. Visitors to our booth will have an option, once they play the
WSPQ, to enter our raffle, the winner of which receives a U-Haul toy truck complete with wings.

Our next regular meeting will be held on Wed., July 25th, speaker to be determined.

NEW BUSINESS

• Kelly Liebman – Operations Director, IT Division

Request for Discussion: “…regarding whether the LPI supports challenging petitions of
opponents.

Should the LPI form a position which duties include researching petitions of opponents in any
race against a Libertarian? If said person, upon a first look at an opponent’s petitions, assumes
the opposition has done due diligence to get on the ballot, the director can move on.”

Reason: “I bring this up because I am disappointed an ‘independent ‘candidate’ who collected

zero signatures for both the governor and comptroller races was thrown off the ballot for the
governor race. But because Republicans did not challenge the comptroller race, the woman is
still on the ballot, hindering the chance at 5% in the comptroller race.

5
LIBERTARIAN PARTY
OF ILLINOIS

If we do not take the opportunity to challenge paperwork like the above example, it shows we
are not serious competition. We are still in little league, while our opponents are playing in the
majors.”

Point of Information: Upon checking with the State Board of Elections, the candidate in question
has, in fact, been removed from the ballot due to a lack of signatures.
