Vendor Site Visit Report

The following report discusses the vendor site visit organized on 16th june 2018. The visit consisted of three
vendor locations in GIDC Vadodara. The detail of each site visit has been discussed below.

1. Mahindra Intertrade Pvt. Ltd. - 132 kv/2 GIDC Savli Industrial Estate Manjusar - Savli

Introduction The first location of the vendor site visit was Mahindra Intertrade Pvt. Ltd. We reached the
location at 10 AM. The visit commenced by a warm welcome from the employees at Mahindra
Intertrade. They gave a brief presentation about their company and the mahindra and
mahindra group. They presented a brief corporate video of their company. Mahindra
Intertrade basically comes under the Mahindra Accelo group of companies, which deal with
steel solutions. Later, we visited the plant and understood the whole procedure right from
material unloading to dispatch. The visit at Mahindra Intertrade concluded with a photo
session of Instructors at mahindra Intertrade and all GET's.

Key Learning Points Mahindra Intertrade imports CRGO(Cold rolled grain oriented) silicon steel sheets from
Nippon steel, Japan. The quality of sheets provided by Nippon Steel is considered to be the
best in the world. Mahindra Intertrade procures these sheets and performs various sheet
metal cutting operations and supplies these sheets to the leading transformer manufacturers
in India. This plant at savli is highly automated and provides precisely sheared steel sheets.
They also have in-house core building facility which can make core for small transformers
upto 12 MVA. They provide the CRGO sheets stacked as per layout provided by the
transformer manufacturers.

Area for Improvements The plant is being operated at very high efficiency. Presently, the unloading of sheets is done
randomly as per their arrival. There could be a proper bifurcation based on width, thickness of
sheet. This will make the identification of material easier and will save considerable amount of
time.
 2. Quick High-tech - Quick High-tech Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. 710, Manjusar GIDC, Savli Industrial Area

Introduction The second location of the vendor site visit was Quick High-tech Engineering Pvt. Ltd.
We reached the location at 12 PM. The visit commenced by a warm welcome from the
employees at Quick High-tech Engineering pvt. ltd. They gave a brief presentation
about their company. Later, we visited the plant and understood the whole procedure
right from material unloading to dispatch.

Key Learning Points Quick High-tech Engineering pvt. ltd. deals with fabrication works and their main
product is the tank of transformers. Quick High-tech Engineering caters to the leading
transformer manufacturers in India. The raw material in form of thick sheets of around
40 mm is brought in from SAIL India. Various sheet metal operations like Gas cutting,
Bending, Shearing take place over here according to the engineering drawing
provided by transformer manufacturer. Quick High-tech Engineering houses one of the
best team of certified welders in gujarat. Once the tank structure is ready, it is sent in
the shot blasting shop. Here, small particles of around 1mm made of mild steel are
projected at high velocity on the tank surface to make it smooth and provide a surface
for paint to adhere on. The shot blasting process is highly risky job and hence Quick
High-tech Engineering follows the safety precautions sincerely for this job. Once the
shot blasting is done, the tank is taken out to be painted and dispatched. Before
dispatch, each tank undergoes pressure test/Vacuum test popularly known as PT/VT.
Along with the transformer tank body, Quick High-tech Engineering also provides the
cooling pipes, radiator stand and other connecting pipes to the transformer
manufacturers.

Area for Improvements There is no proper work flow maintained to prepare the tank. the areas of
manufacturing are not well defined. Safety rules are being violated at almost every
stage of manufacturing. Employees who apply the harmful paint do not wear
protective masks.
 3. E.M. Electromechanicals Pvt. Ltd. - E.M. Electromechanicals Pvt. Ltd.(Unit 3) 19,20 Alindra, Savli Industrial
area, Vadodara, Gujarat

Introduction The final location of the vendor site visit was E.M. Electromechanicals Pvt. Ltd. We reached
the location at 3 PM. The visit commenced by a warm welcome from the employees at E.M.
Electromechanicals Pvt. Ltd. They gave a brief presentation about their company. Later, we
visited the plant and understood the whole procedure right from material unloading to
dispatch. E.M. Electromechanicals Pvt. Ltd. is owned by an retired officer of BHEL Mr. Atul
Shukla. The visit concluded with photosession of instructors with all GET's.

Key Learning Points E.M. Electromechanicals Pvt. Ltd. deals with fabrication works and their main product is the
tank of transformers. The process of fabrication was similar to the process discussed earlier
at Quick Hightech Engineering pvt. ltd. The process from unloading of raw material to
dispatch is similar. Before dispatch, each tank undergoes pressure test/Vacuum test
popularly known as PT/VT. E.M. Electromechanicals Pvt. Ltd. also provides efficient
packaging techniques, and also provides the cooling pipes, radiator stand and other
connecting pipes to the transformer manufacturers. E.M. Electromechanicals have developed
several innovative techniques like automatic welding procedures to weld conservator tank
and other similar components.

Area for ImprovementsThe fabrication shop had well defined areas for manufacturing and proper workflow was
maintained. But, Safety rules were violated here. Workers working at heights did not have
proper safety equipments. Welders didn't wear safety goggles.
