Note on Pushkara Lift Irrigation Scheme Dated 26.06.

2018

A. PREAMBLE

Thota Venkatachalam Pushkara Lift Irrigation Scheme contemplates pumping


of 1512 Cusecs (42.82 Cumecs) of water over a static head of 28.20 mt. from River
Godavari near Purushothapatnam (V) to provide irrigation facilities to an extent of
1,85,906 acres during Khariff season and drinking water to 5.30 lakhs people in
17Mandals of East Godavari District and 1 Mandal in Visakhapatnam District .The
total power requirement is 33 MW.

About 11.80 TMC of water will be pumped through 8 nos. of vertical turbine
pumps each of 3000 HP and conveyed through 1635mm dia pressure main in 12 rows
each of length 6.75 km to drop into the delivery cistern. The main canal takes off from
the cistern and runs for a length of 97.100 Km with the required Distributory system.

At suitable locations of the canal system, secondary pumping provide with


11 sub lifts to provide irrigation facilities to 92,138 acres in the upland areas and
higher patches.
Administrative approval was accorded vide G.O.Ms No.26 Dt: 27.08.2003 for
an amount of Rs.297.250 Crs. Revised Estimate was approved by Govt Vide G.O.Ms
No. 265 Dt: 16.02.2007 for an amount of Rs. 608.04 Crs. Final Revised
Administrative Approval was accorded vide G.O.Ms No. 50 Dt: 22.09.2014 for Rs.
674.52 Crs.

B. Components of the Project:
The project envisages the following components
(i) Execution of two numbers of Main Pump Houses on AGLB and are
completed.

(ii) Execution of Main Canal and Distributory System: 87.72 % works


completed.

(iii) 11 Nos., of sub-Lifts on Main Canal & Distributaries: completed

C. Land Acquisition:
6068.03 acres of land is acquired so far against 6119.53 acres required.
Balance land to be acquired is 51.50 Acres.

D. Irrigation Potential of the Project:


 Ayacut contemplated : 1,85,906 Acres
 Irrigation Potential created upto 05/2018 : 1,48,154 Acres

 Target Irrigation potential for Khariff 2018 :1,48,154 Acres


 Balance Irrigation Potential to be created : 37752 Acres
 Programme for completion of Balance I.P. : 07/2018

E. Cumulative Expenditure:

Total cumulative expenditure upto end of 05/2018 is Rs.621.48Crs. Works –


Rs.395.511Crs, Lands – Rs.144.470Crs; Forest – Rs.1.444Crs. Misc- Rs. 80.058
Crores.

F. Bottlenecks
1) Balance land to be acquired is 51.50 Acres in which there are 2 Nos of court cases
pending for which land acquisition process is held up to an extent of 26.79 Acres
in S. Annavaram (village). Status is quo-orders. For which constant pursuance is
being made by the Government pleader of Land Acquisition. Due to this land
acquisition problem an extent of 23,081 acres is held up.

2) The work of 5 Nos. HPCL/GAIL crossings has to be taken up, for which amount
has to be deposited to the concerned authorities by the agency and the agency is
being pursued for the deposition of amount. Due to this 5 Nos of HPCL/GAIL
crossings and pending of some part of works (i.e., canal execution and
construction of structures) and an extent of 3720 acres is being held up.

Further it is submitted that the time required to complete the balance


quantities of work in order to complete the project is around 6 to 8 months.
