Designing Your Blended Course: Blended Module Planning Worksheet

Course Title: OTA250: Occupational Therapy in Psychosocial Settings Module Title: Addressing Body Functions: Cognition
Use this worksheet to plan one module (or unit, week, chapter, etc.) of your blended course.

This week you will learn about addressing body functions in mental health practice.
Specifically, you will develop the knowledge to describe and recognize cognitive deficits
associated with mental illness, and the skills to address these in treatment using both remedial
and compensatory strategies. Online, you will become familiar with cognitive deficits common
in mental illness via a screencast lecture and your reading, and you will assess your ability to
recognize these in the EdPuzzle video quiz you will take. You will also create a case study of
Module Overview and Introduction someone with cognitive deficits related to schizophrenia, which will require you to describe
(General Standard 1) these deficits and how they impact occupational performance. When you come to class, you
will work in a small group to create remedial and compensatory interventions for the cases that
you and others have created. There, you’ll have the support of your peers and instructor as
you begin to apply the knowledge you gained in the online lesson. This will prepare you for
next week’s lab competency exam, which will require you to individually complete an
intervention plan for someone requiring remediation or compensation of cognitive deficits to
improve occupational performance.
Course-Level Objective or Competency (in language required

client seeking services for cognitive deficits related to
schizophrenia. Include in your profile information about the

the cognitive deficits relate to his/her occupational
performance. In your peer response, suggest ways that writer
can add to or clarify some component of his/her case study.
3. Small group intervention planning: Students use the case
studies they created online to discuss and develop an
intervention plan aimed at remediation of cognitive deficits, Online / F2F / Both
and one aimed at compensation for cognitive deficits. Groups
present these intervention plans to the class via a role play.
