Session Title: Exploring Manual and Digital Materials for Differentiated Instructions
in an English Language Classroom
Description
This session is designed to expose CPs on the different digital materials that can be used to
teach the sounds of the English language. It provides opportunities for CPs to explore digital
materials provided by MoE and resources that are available online. CPs should be able to
incorporate the materials in remedial teaching. CPs will explore the possibility of developing their
own materials to tailor to the needs of their pupils.

Suggested Good morning ladies and gentlemen. How are you today?
Instructional Let’s talk about gadgets! How many of you use
Language smartphones?

How many of you use more than one gadget?
Have you used digital materials for teaching and learning on your
gadgets? Have you used it with young learners?
What are the problems that you face using these gadgets?
Do you use the laptops/pcs/LCD projectors?
Have you seen digital materials for teaching and learning? When?

Do you know the different types of digital materials provided by the
Ministry of Education for the purpose of teaching and learning?
Okay now let’s look at what we have here.
Procedure
1. Give a short briefing on manual and digital materials.
2. Explain to participants the three sets of modules and that there are
two versions of digital materials available namely the offline
materials and online materials. Also list out and show
samples/photos of the different materials that are available offline
and online. Introduce the different Offline Materials that have been
provided and are available to the teachers:

Procedure
1. Explain to participants on how to identify the right materials and
why multimedia based materials should be used compared to
traditional materials and vice-versa.
2. Explain the different criteria of adopting a digital material to teach
a certain component with examples.

1. Choose one item from Learning Objects.
2. Launch the material and take the participants on a tour around the
website/material to familiarise the participants with the structure of
how the material is built and can be of maximum use.
3. Show the theoretical framework.
4. Go through the interface and the different buttons.
