2 Âzar’s11 Son ‫ولد َآزر‬

‫ َوَكا َن َآزر لَه َولَ ٌد َرِشي ٌد ِجدا‬. And Azar had a very intelligent son. 12

‫الولَ ِد إٍ َبر ِاه َيم‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ذ‬

َ ‫ه‬ ‫م‬‫س‬ِ‫وَكان ا‬
َ َ َ And the name of this boy was Ibrahim .13

‫اس يَسجدو َن لِلَصنَ ِام‬

َ ‫الن‬ ‫ى‬‫ر‬ ‫ي‬
َ ‫م‬
َ َ َ‫ي‬ ِ ‫وَكا َن إِب ر‬.
‫اه‬ And Ibrahim would see the people prostrating to the

idols.

‫اس يَعبدو َن الَصنَ َام‬

َ ‫ َويََرى الن‬. And he would see the people worshipping the idols.

ٌ‫وَكا َن إِب َر ِاه َيم يَع ِرف أَن الَصنَ َام ِح َج َارة‬. And Ibrahim would recognize that 14 the idols were

stone.

‫ َوَكا َن يَعرف أَن الَصنَ َام لَ تتَ َكلَم َولَ تَس َمع‬. And he would recognize that idols do not speak and

do not listen/hear.

‫ َوَكا َن يَع ِرف أَن الصنَ َام لَ تَضُّر َولَ تَن َفع‬. And he would recognize that idols do not harm and

do not bring benefit.

‫س َعلَى الصنَ َام فَلَ تَدفَع‬ ُّ ‫وَكا َن يَرى أَن‬

َ َ‫ب جيَل‬
َ ‫الذ ََب‬ َ َ And he would see that the fly sits upon the idols

[and] then they do not defend [against it].

‫ َوَكا َن يََرى ال َف َأر ََيكل طَ َع َام الصنَ َام فَلَ ََتنَع‬. And he would see the mouse eating the idol’s food

[and] then they do not prevent [it].

‫ لِ َما َذا يَسجد الناس لِلَصناَِم‬: ‫ َوَكا َن إِب َر ِاهيم يَقول ِِف نَف ِس ِه‬. And Ibrahim would say to 15 himself: Why do the

people prostrate to the idols?

‫اس الَصنَ َام؟‬ ِ ِ ِ

َ ‫ ل َما َذا يَسأَل الن‬:‫َوَكا َن إ َبراهيم يَسأَل نَف َسه‬ And Ibrahim would ask himself: Why do the people

ask the idols.16
