English Language Arts 10A — Disclosure Statement

Ms. Christine Yee — christine.yee@canyonsdistrict.org, Room 220, canyons.instructure.com, 801-826-5938

This course focuses on the Utah core standards for reading, writing, language, and speaking and listening. We will read and
analyze British literature as well as write argument and informative essays, narratives and poetry. All students will create
eportfolios to highlight their work over the trimester.

Expectations
• Arrive on time and prepared.
• Respect people, their time, and their property.
• Turn in work when it is due. Computer problems are not an excuse for
late work.
• Participate in class activities.
• Be original in your work.

Student materials
You will need a notebook, writing utensil and a reading book. I will accept most work though Canvas only. Your login at
canyons.instructure.com is the same as your school login: the first letter of your first name followed by the first three letters of
your last name and the last four numbers of your student ID. Your password is your student number.

Assignments
SKYWARD: I will update Skyward at least once a week but may need up to two weeks to assess longer writing pieces.
You may redo any writing piece for a better grade as long as the original was turned in on time. Because it is difficult to redo an
old assignment and keep up with new work, make sure the outcome is worth your time.
LATE WORK: Assignments must be turned within 5 days of the due date to receive half credit. I will NOT accept late
essays. But worry not. I will assign the major writing assignments two weeks before they are due, and we will work on them in
class.
SUMMER READING: Upload your journal (100 points) to Canvas on Sept. 5 before midnight. I will administer the
multiple choice test (50 points) on Sept. 5. Check out bhs.canyonsdistrict.org for the reading list.
MARKED BOOK: We will read and annotate Macbeth this trimester. Each student will need a fresh copy to mark. You
can buy a book from the school for $4.50 or purchase your own.
OUTSIDE READING: Pick one novel more than 200 pages long at your reading level that does not have a film made for
it. After reading the novel, you may create a book trailer, video book review, or written book review. Follow the instructions on
canyons.instructure.com to submit the 100-point assignment by midterm.
THIS FORM IS YOUR FIRST ASSIGNMENT. Take this home and talk it over with your parent or guardian before you
have it signed. This is worth an easy 10 points if you turn it in by _________________.
Extra credit
• Learn the Brighton Fight Song and perform it for the class (50 points).
• Perform a service to the class (25 points each, 2 max).
• Attend one of the performing arts concerts this trimester and write a review on the event (50 points).
