2.2 Design Method

The Structural engineering detailed design of the proposed Gas test bunker substructure has
been carried out to suit the relevant Architectural drawings. The design is in accordance with
construction methodology and sub-soil conditions at the proposed site. The building is basically
composed of reinforced concrete wall. The foundation has been designed as strip footing while
the ground slab (250mm thick) which is provided with isolation joint was designed as slab on
grade. No geotechnical report was available as at the time of carrying out this analysis but a
bearing capacity of 60kN/m2 was assumed conservatively.
The superstructure service loading including the ground floor live and superimposed dead load
was modelled in STAAD Pro and the reactions generated were appropriately designed for using
STAAD Pro.

Note: This foundation design covers for the strip footing for the paint booth 1 & 2 and the blast
booth structure.

Building Geometry
Width of Building = 6m
Length of Building =6m
Height of Building = 3.2m

3.1 SUPERSTRUCTURE LOADINGS

A summary of the superstructure gravity loadings on the entire building frame is presented
in the sections below. The ground slab was separated from the wall by providing isolation
joints. The ground slab design was done separately from the wall footing design; refer to
section ----- for the ground slab design.
Dead Load (DL)
Weight of Wall = StaadPro software automatically calculates this and applies it
appropriately
Roof Dead Load = 0.75KN/m2
Live Load (LL):
Roof Live Load = 0.75KN/m2

Ground Slab Loading

Dead Load:
Floor Finishes = 1.2KN/m2
Partitions = 1.0KN/m2
M & E services = 0.5KN/m2
Total Dead Load = 2.7KN/m2
Live Load (LL)
Slab imposed Load = 5ton/m2

3.2 LOAD COMBINATIONS

The load combinations listed below were considered in the design and analysis of the gas
test bunker strip footing;

 Combination 1
1.4DL + 1.6LL – Ultimate
1.0DL + 1.0LL – Service
