Zsa Zsa Gabor is resting comfortably after undergoing a partial leg amputation
at UCLA Medical Center on Friday.
"The surgery today went well, however, she is in frail health so we will
continue to monitor her closely," said Dr. David Rigberg.
"Ms. Gabor needed an amputation above her knee due to poor circulation
and a large ulcerated area on her right leg," Rigberg said. "After
consulting with her husband, Frederic Prinz von Anhalt
we felt this was the best medical course of action."
The Prince had a difficult decision to make. Gabor's leg was heavily
infected because of a blood clot. Because of her age and deteriorated
health, putting her under anesthesia and going through major surgery was
extremely risky -- in fact, doctors said there was less than a 50
percent chance she would survive the surgery.
