demonstrates my competency in the area of literacy planning and assessment. Becoming familiar
with a variety of assessment tools gives teachers the access they need when targeting specific
aspects within the literacy domain. In addition, understanding how to assess students is crucial in
being able to understand where students are in their learning and the next steps that need to be
taken with them in order for them to meet educational objects set forth in the curriculum.
Therefore, assessing students and planning accordingly caters to the unique and individual needs
of students coinciding with that of Vygotsky and the notion of the zone of proximal
development. In this case the more knowledgeable other (the teacher) can set forth instructional
plans based off the results of assessment and guide the student to a level that is attainable to
them.
Connection to Standards
INTASC Standards
The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in
their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher’s and learner’s decision
making.
6(l) The teacher knows how to analyze assessment data to understand patterns and gaps
in learning, to guide planning and instruction, and to provide meaningful feedback to all learners.
for all.
Educators apply their professional knowledge to promote student learning. They know
the curriculum and utilize a range of strategies and assessments to address differences. Educators
develop and implement programs based upon a strong understanding of human development and
learning theory. They support a challenging learning environment. They advocate for necessary
resources to teach to higher levels of learning. They establish and maintain clear standards of
behavior and civility. Educators are role models, displaying the habits of mind and work
necessary to develop and apply knowledge while simultaneously displaying a curiosity and
enthusiasm for learning. They invite students to become active, inquisitive, and discerning

Name: Linda Saleh ___June 19, 2018_________
Student Name: Sarah Grade 2
2. Standards:
Phonics and Word Recognition
3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. a. Distinguish long
and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words. b. Know spelling-sound
correspondences for additional common vowel teams. c. Decode regularly spelled two-syllable words
with long vowels. d. Decode words with common prefixes and suffixes. e. Identify words with
inconsistent but common spelling-sound correspondences. f. Recognize and read grade-appropriate
irregularly
Instruction Plan 2
Using at least one Dolch word from the grade 2 list, create a sentence using proper sentence structure,
capitalization and punctuation. Please create at least three sentences and be able to read it, write it and
explain what the Dolce word means.
b. Student feedback :
Sarah appears content as she receives feedback of a perfect score. I will tell Sarah that I will provide
her additional activities to practice vocabulary development and writing skills and explain the Dolch
word assignment. I will also mention to Sarah that although she got a perfect score she needs to work
on her use of capitalization and punctuation. I will show Sarah the tasks that I will give her to help her
with using capitals and punctuation.
From 50-75% of all words used in school books, library books, newspapers, and magazines are in the
Dolch Basic Sight Vocabulary of 220 words (preschool thru Grade 3). The Dolch word list is made up
of "service words" (pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and verbs) which cannot
be learned through the use of pictures (Retrieved fromhttp://www.kidzone.ws/dolch/grade2.htm).
Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory posits that learning is constructed in a social context whereby “the
more knowledgeable other” (MKO) can assist a student in working to a level that is slightly above their
comfortable zone but not too high that they are unable to attain and as a result loose interest (Sternberg
& Williams, 2010)
I will determine Sarah’s learning by checking in with her and assessing the instructional plans that
were put in place for her. From there I can evaluate next steps for Sarah.
