Shear Studs – Diaphragm Applications
Shear studs are often used along diaphragm collector
members to transfer the shear from the slab into the
frame. The shear stud calculation model in the
2005 AISC specification can be used to compute
the nominal shear strengths. A strength reduction
factor should be used when comparing these
values to the factored shear. There is no code-
established value for the strength reduction factor.
A value of 0.8 is recommended pending further
development.
